Exhibition Details

“The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Titian and the Venetian Renaissance from the Uffizi,” solely sponsored by the Club’s Charities Trust in collaboration with the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) and the Uffizi Galleries of Italy, marks the first large-scale exhibition of Venetian art in Hong Kong. Visitors are invited on a journey to experience the art of Titian and other iconic artists from the Venetian School of painting.

The 16th century marked the golden age of Venetian painting, Titian emerged as one of the most influential and highly sought-after artist, not only in Venice but across Europe. He was the preferred painter of popes, emperors and princes because of his talent for representing the most intense facets of human sentiment – love, desire, power and spirituality – in an extraordinary way. He was a model for his contemporaries and his works profoundly conditioned European art, even in the centuries to follow.

Divided into six sections, this exhibition presents 50 precious works by Titian and his fellow contemporary Venetian artists such as Giorgione, Tintoretto and Veronese. Through these masterpieces, visitors are immersed in the intricate and dynamically colourful artistic world of the Venetian School of painting.

To complement the exhibition with a unique Hong Kong viewpoint, HKMoA invited local artists Leung Chi-wo and Chan Kwan-lok to present a contemporary art installation that unlocks the historical essence of Venice and showcases finely detailed imaginative worlds by traditional Chinese meticulous brushwork respectively, visitors will experience a captivating juxtaposition of art from different eras and cultures.
