New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development has ranked #6 in this year’s U.S. News & World Report annual ranking of best graduate schools of education. NYU Steinhardt is tied with Stanford University.

Ascending from the #20 ranking in 2015, NYU Steinhardt has held a spot among the top ten schools of education in the United States for the last four years – also currently the highest ranked school of education in New York. NYU Steinhardt ranks ahead of Northwestern University (#8), Columbia University’s Teacher’s College (#9) and the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor (#9) in the top 10.

“Our consistent ranking in the top 10 over the last four years is due in large part to the steady increase in externally-funded research, the high performance of our doctoral students, and the impact and influence our faculty have in education-related fields,” said the Gale and Ira Drukier Dean of NYU Steinhardt Jack H. Knott. “My thanks to all of our faculty, researchers, students, administrators, and staff whose hard work and talent made this ranking a reality.”

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on data gathered from the 2019-2020 academic year.

“Since I began as dean of NYU Steinhardt, I have been so impressed by the passion, dedication, and excellence of the work being done by our community,” continued Knott. “Our interdisciplinary work serving the entire human lifespan – across education, art, health, media, applied statistics and psychology, and the humanities – makes us perfectly positioned to develop and implement solutions to some of society’s most pressing problems. This latest recognition from our peers further confirms my confidence in our trajectory.”

Founded in 1890 as the first American school of education in the nation, NYU Steinhardt has continually evolved to meet the needs of society by creating programs that respond to a changing world.
