Mid-level marketing executive Sally, in an attempt to spice up her personal life, sets in motion a series of events that lead her to embarking on a wild affair with Emma and calling it off with long-term, predictable partner David. Unlike Sally, Emma is a free spirit and impulsive. She exudes sexuality and brings excitement to Sally's mundane existence. Yet before Sally knows it, Emma has commandeered her life in every single way. Read More Read Less

      Critics Consensus

The outrageously singular Julia Davis delivers yet another impeccable performance in Sally4Ever, masterfully walking the line between side-splitting and cringe-worthy comedy.

Michael Idato Sydney Morning Herald There are also moments of proper brilliance. Feb 15, 2019 Full Review Graeme Blundell The Australian I found it very funny for all its rawness, viciousness and cruelty and I admire Davis's fearlessness and the masterful way she makes awful people so damned likable. Feb 8, 2019 Full Review Judy Berman TIME Magazine Julia Davis breathes new life into it with this tart miniseries... Jan 2, 2019 Full Review James Walton The Spectator In theory, Davis's utter fearlessness is to be applauded. In practice, it still is - particularly as the brilliantly repellent action is accompanied by brilliantly repellent one-liners. Dec 19, 2018 Full Review Marty Brown Common Sense Media British comedy about bisexuality is for mature viewers only. Rated: 4/5 Nov 21, 2018 Full Review Malcolm Venable TV Guide Julia Davis, the English comedian, actor, writer and director who created the original (and better) version of Camping, brings a new cringe-comedy fest to HBO with Sally4Ever and it needs to be your new Brit-com obsession. Audience Member Julia Davis has been stuck in a career cycle of diminishing returns for a while now, churning out repetitive, predictable Dark Comedy. Sally4ever is the latest, with Davis reduced to super gross-out moments, presumably to distract from the lack of any decent writing or characterisation. Even the impressive cast can't rescue this mess, and viewers are forced to endure characters so lacking in any depth or humanity, it becomes a weary, camp pantomime for adults. It's Davis by numbers at this point. I hope she's able to find the spark she's lost and stop phoning in these self tribute acts. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this show, its so cheeky... Laughed out so loud cause I've actually encountered characters like Emma in my life time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I started skipping ahead by 10 second intervals just to get close to the end of the episode(s). I only made it though 2 of them. I'm upset I wasted my time on this. This isn't funny. It's hard to watch. Emma's character makes you not want to watch further. The whole thing is cringe worthy. This is honestly the first HBO series I haven't loved. What in tf were they thinking? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The problem with Sally4Ever is how easy viewers categorize it as gross, when it very much earns all those disgusting jokes. The scatological humor sits by the sidelines of incredibly precise comedic performances, painfully sharp writing, and an engaging storyline that is never distracted. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm probably not the right audience for this one. Gave it a shot but found it boring and poorly written. Skip. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member As good and nighty night. Julia Davis is a treasure Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
