Real time mileage tracking app and a question

First time poster (posted in /Uber no replies) Just started doing Uber and knowing how disorganized i am especially in regards to keeping track of expenses for taxes i wanted to ask my fellow colleagues if there is a free app that tracks your mileage while you drive that you prefer to use. Also, for tax purposes do you only calculate miles that were driven with a client inside the car or for example if i drive 15 miles to the spot that i usually sit at - does that count for tax purposes? Thanks in advance for any help!

The Uber Driver app in my state reports “miles online” which includes something close to what you’re talking about.

Stride

It's an app available on Android and iPhone. Among its many features, it does have mileage tracking and automatically calculates tax deductions for the country and state you live in. And then at tax time, you can request a summary and they will send you a spreadsheet with totals that you can simply input into your tax filing.

If you have additional vehicle expenses, you can add those to Stride to keep track of them, with photos of your receipts.

Thank you! Does it track your miles for you when you drive? Or you have to manually do it?

The app has a + button at bottom. Tap that and tap "Track Miles"... Leave it running in the background. Then when you are done, tap "I'm done driving" and it sums the miles, does the math, and displays tax savings.

Thank you! 🙏🏻

Thank you! 🙏🏻

You're welcome!

You are allowed to deduct all miles that are exclusively for business use, so if you are relocating after a trip, you may deduct those miles.

Just remember that you can only deduct mileage OR actual expenses, not both. Also, if you do expenses the 1st year, you must do it every year after, and you can only deduct the business percentage of expenses.

Deducting the mileage is almost always better for rideshare drivers.
