This man is nothing short of amazing. Why aren't there more cds and why are some of the ones he made, unavailable??? He's incredible and I love him. His voice is so smooth and silky and you could litteraly melt by listening to him. I have all of his cds and this is as good as the rest. Gerald, if you read this, MAKE MORE MUSIC PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! Buy this cd and you'll go nuts for him. Great talent.
I saw Gerald Alston as lead singer for the Manhattans in Kansas City in 1989. I was in the second balcony and during the performance he sang a song acappella. I heard every note clearly. I always liked the Manhattans but after that concert I was in love with the Manhattans and Gerald Alston. I can remember as a child my father took me to the Regal Theater on Chicago's south side and I remember Sam Cook as well. Gerald can "sang" some Sam Cook. He has taken on a huge task of regenerating interest in this singer who's life was cut short under a shroud of mystery. He really does sound like Sam Cook. My Aunts will be getting that CD for Christmas. FIRST CLASS ONLY is the finest piece of work Gerald has recorded that I have heard to date. Matter of fact I am on this site now trying to buy the CD because someone in my family took it and did not return it and trying to act like they never had it. His songs speak to my heart. The words in his songs are words you want your old love, current love or your new love to say to you. I am glad to have lived long enough to hear his music.

After recording three beautiful but poorly promoted CDs for Motown, Gerald moved on to Street Life/Scotti Bros. but he (sadly) fared no better commercially and issued just one CD there. "Tell Me", "Stay The Night", "I'm Going Crazy", "Mirror Mirror" and a remake of the classic hit "Kiss And Say Goodbye" all make this CD worthwhile but 1990's "Open Invitation" and 1992's "Always In The Mood" contain stronger material and production. Just why this great Soul balladeer never got his due recognition and respect as a solo artist (when many less-talented artists whom he competed against for airplay topped the charts) is beyond me but his willingness to keep on making real music is admirable.
I totally agree, his voice is mesmerizing, I have been on a Gerald Alston kick for about two weeks now, my CD player in my car holds 6 CDs, 5 are his the other is one of the Mahattans, I am astounded that this man has not gotten the attention that he so richly deserve, that is unfortnate for all the Music lovers out there....the title "First Class Only" is deserving for this CD....I am praying that God give this man a special blessing of "True Recognition"
I have discovered Alston some ten years ago now in a karaokebar in Antwerp (Belgium) I simply had to have the CD. Since then I have bought other music of him. Alston never becomes boring. His music his smooth and makes me happy. It's always like listening for the first time.
