Jaden Ivey is Leandro Barbosa
Just watched some old Barbosa highlights and came to this comparison. Hopefully Ivey shows more promise and upside but I can’t deny there similarities in movements.

Ivey was drafted super talented but a bit raw. Was always going to take three years of development to actuallize and Monty wasted last season.
At least 3 years. Guards take the longest to develop. Put them on a bad team with bad coaches and it stunts everything.
How was he wasted? he played all the time and every game?
Under Casey Jaden Ivey added something to his game every month. Last season his role on offense was to stand still in the corner which negated his ability to move faster than most players. Ivey was put in position to fail.
Then he should develop a jumper
That’s definitely part of his development. He wasn’t drafted for his shot, he was drafted for how fast he can move and get to the basket. Having him stand still in the corner is coaching malpractice.
Under Casey he went from 33% pre-ASB to 36% post-ASB. A jumper was very much one of the things he was developing when he had a coach interested in developing him.
Under Monty he started off the season still shooting 36% from deep pre-ASB and regressed to shooting 30% post-ASB. We had several dudes who's shooting stats regressed in Montys awful offense but Ivey was one of the most visible cases
Yeah and Ivey this year played really bad in different stretches we can blame the coach always
He was routinely shelved for worse dudes and instead asked to play in a bench unit with zero cohesion (if he even got meaningful minutes at all). There was a point in November when he was like the 10th or 11th man while Killian was starting. It also literally took until January to even explore using him how he was used last year and Monty had no explanation other than "yeah I probably should've done that earlier". Monty just flat out didn't/doesn't care about Iveys potential and he's not remotely subtle about it
Jaden Ivey as the microwave sixth man on a championship team is something I fuck with.
A starting 2 guard that can shoot and defend at an elite level is crucial to get this team to start winning. I know some of y’all hate him, but Reed Shepherd fits that role perfectly. Bring Ivey in once the opposing starters are getting tired. Could play both in a small-ball lineup when needed, each getting about 26 minutes per game
I am very high on Reed Sheppard. Took me some time to come around on him, but I think you bet on the skill level. And you don't need him to be a true PG with Cade around. I would be a big fan of the Pistons taking him no matter where they fall in the draft, tbh.
Not to mention he’s a Kentucky guard, they have a pretty damn good track record in the NBA
I love Coach Cal. Dude has always been upfront about getting guys ready for the league.
sheppard isn't a good defender
I was talking to someone at work and was saying that. I was saying more so worst case scenario, he still has some growth to his game. Ivey just has to make better decisions and get that jumper consistent. He's boom or bust from the 3 point line. So it's not necessarily he's a bad shooter IMO.
Finkle is Einhorn!
Love all the comments - but I think you all forgot the rules of this sub:
It’s all Duran and Iveys fault.
trading Ivey and Duran for 3 first round picks - and 4 tall guys who can shoot and play defense is our only solution.
