Jeff Wilson Jr. Fantasy Waiver Wire: Should I Pick Up the Dolphins RB This Week?

Jeff Wilson Jr. Fantasy Waiver Wire: Should I Pick Up the Dolphins RB This Week?

Should fantasy football managers consider adding Jeff Wilson Jr. off the waiver wire as the Miami Dolphins prepare for Week 13 of the season?

The Miami Dolphins are tied for the top spot in the AFC, as they moved to 8-3 with the 34-13 victory against the New York Jets on Black Friday.

There are injury issues on the team, as running back De’Von Achane is still battling a knee problem. He was on the injured reserve but got hurt again in his first game back and didn’t play last Friday.

Achane’s absence allowed starter Raheem Mostert to get more carries, but it also gave some opportunities to Jeff Wilson Jr. If Achane is forced to miss more games, should fantasy football managers consider signing Wilson off the waiver wire?

Should Jeff Wilson Jr. Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 13?

In the win against the Jets, Mostert rushed the ball 20 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns.

He is currently second in the NFL in rushing yards with 785 (McCaffrey is the league leader) and is setting the pace with 13 rushing touchdowns. He has proven to be one of the best running backs this season, but Wilson did also have a good game against the Jets. He finished the game with 11 carries for 56 yards.

While Wilson’s afternoon was impressive, is it enough to warrant nabbing the veteran off the wire? It is tempting, but right now, I am going to advise against picking up Wilson.

First and foremost, Mostert is still the clear lead back for Miami, a distinction he’s earned with his performance to date. He’s also a seamless fit for the team’s offense. With his ability to also catch the ball out of the backfield, he can stay on the field all three downs.

Another reason why you shouldn’t be rushing to sign Wilson off the waiver wire is because there is a very good chance that Achane is ready to go soon. A big reason why he didn’t play in the game on Friday is because it was such a fast turnaround. If the game had been on Sunday, then there may have been a chance for Achane to play.

If Achane is healthy and ready to go, there just aren’t enough touches and carries for Wilson on the Dolphins. There are so many playmakers on the Dolphins’ roster that it’s tough to count on a potential No. 3 running back to be heavily involved in the offense.

If you’re currently in search of a running back, it’s going to be tough to find one on the waiver wire who is going to be able to come in and contribute. Chances are you have a player on your roster who is more likely to have a big game.

It is frustrating for Wilson because if he was on a different team, you could definitely make a case for him. He is a fast and explosive back in his own right. However, he simply isn’t in a situation conducive to consistent fantasy production at the moment.
