Longview high is a large very diverse campus. They offer activities for everything, no matter what your interest are you can find your place. However, the facilities need to be updated and there are not enough class rooms. Also, there is a great football program but you can see that more money and recognition is given there then anything else. There are a variety of sports offered but not much recognition for them. The swim facility is probably the oldest but they don’t give money to keep the pool running properly. They boast an IB program for college readiness but it’s harder to keep teachers in that program. The Dual Credit program allows you to take college courses and even earn of an associate degree they don’t weigh it the same as the IB so you can’t graduate top of the class.
Longview HS is focused on money and sports. They have not had good leadership in decades. A part time superintendent and corrupt school board. More guns in this school than any pawn shop in town. Great sports programs though. The school touts their academics and IB program as being "elite". They are in fact, behind most of the other schools in the area and not nearly as advanced as they like to say. Their IB diplomas aren't worth the paper they're printed on. No real college prep. IB kids are treated as special and they really aren't that high performing academically. Just mediocre. Don't drink the koolaid. Lots of better schools in the area private and public. Plus safety is a huge issue. School covers up the crimes because they do not want the bad publicity since their hand is always out for bond money.
Longview high school has been really amazing throughout the last four years. The classes and teachers have been nothing but outstanding. My teachers have showed so much kindness and compassion to myself and other students. The only bad thing about the school is the lack of support the art and theatre classes receive, however there's much support from other departments and the community that surrounds us.
