Richard John Hajewski, age 76, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at his home in Ocean City. Born in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Peter Hajewski and Dorothy DeBald Hajewski.
Richard graduated with a degree in psychology from University of Baltimore and during his career was the Director of Human Resources for Baltimore City and Rockville Maryland. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ocean City, MD and also attended Delmarva Polish Club where he would play music. Richard would volunteer at his local Elks Lodge and loved bringing his favorite baked goods to events. He was also a trained musician and loved to play his keyboard and accordion and sing along to his old favorite songs. He was known to be very handy and could fix anything around the house and also liked to give advice to people on their home improvement projects. Richard was a generous person and would never let anyone pick up the bill. His conversations, silly "dad jokes" and kind, loving soul will be missed by all.
He is survived by his sons, Paul E. Hajewski, and John A. Hajewski, stepson, Werner Schlough and wife Patricia, stepdaughter, Katherine Young and husband Phil, brother, Peter Hajewski, and grandchildren, Eric Schlough, Ian Schlough, Cameron Schlough and, Hailey Schlough as well as many extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Pearson Hajewski, brother, Paul Hajewski, stepson, Frederick Schlough, sisters, Dorothy Tana and Rosalie Connors and, grandchild Alexander Young.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Richards name to the Worcester County Humane Society 12330 Eagles Nest Rd, Berlin, MD 21811. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 12:00 PM, at The Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin, MD. A visitation will be held on hour prior. Inurnment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, DE. Letters of condolence can be sent to the family via www.burbagefuneralhome.com. Arrangements are in the care of The Burbage Funeral Home.
