Gillick points out depth as an important factor when buying a couch because "it will be different for everyone," she says. This Albany Park option could technically transform into a pit sofa if you buy all the parts and arrange like so. Here's what you can expect from the Kova: it comes with hypoallergenic cushions that are removable, is made with plush upholstery, and has a sturdy plywood frame. You can test it at-home via the brand's 30-day trial to ensure it's the best fit for your family. Though, we're pretty sure everyone will love plopping down into this soft couch and kicking their feet up after a long week.

Yes, it is as comfortable as it looks," she says. It's available in several sizes, configurations, and colors, so feel free to completely customize it to your space. "Aside form the cushions, which feel more like pillows you'd sleep on, what makes this couch so cozy is that fact that it's quite low to the ground, so getting on and off isn't really a hassle," Cherner adds.

It also comes in three colors. Few brands craft luxurious sofas like Maiden Home. Rather than offer their loyal clients a bevy of options, which, more often than not, is more stressful than helpful, Maiden Home sells 13 styles, including The Jones, a modular option we are shamelessly obsessed with. We love it in the sea foam green pictured, but if you're into something more neutral, opt for any of the brand's myriad fabric options. Plus, it comes with free white glove delivery because it's made to order, meaning no one is going into a warehouse and pulling out a sofa that's been sitting on a shelf for months.

With the moody berry blue performance fabric and deep, plush seats, this Burrow sofa is pretty dreamy. Since West Elm is a reliable brand for almost everyone, you can trust that, even without testing it in person, it will arrive exactly as the website promises. Case in point: This sofa, which is just as comfortable as it looks. One thing we will say, though, is that the cushions aren't sink-in soft. They're a bit overstuffed, which we'd consider a good thing, but it makes for a firmer seat. If you like to sit on pillowy soft sofas, this may not be the one for you. Otherwise, grab it in four sizes and more than 100 fabrics. Did we mention that it includes free white glove delivery?

Cons

Not all of the most comfortable couches need thick, plush cushions. In fact, some of the most cozy feature thinner cushions. The secret? Memory foam, which you'd recognize from some luxurious mattresses and pillows. This fabulous find is a sofa by day and a fold-down futon by night. Because it's memory foam, it's just as comfortable. That said, it's not exactly built for the very tall because it's only six feet wide. For context, most twin beds are only three inches longer.

Frontgate has a ton of sofas, but our favorite is the Kahli, which boasts a simple silhouette, rolled arms, and a low-profile frame. It comes in 100 fabrics, so unless you're looking for something with a unique shape (think round), this will work in your space. It also comes in two sizes, so if you're working with a small living room, the 72-inch option will definitely fit.

This is another sofa that looks as comfortable as it looks, courtesy of the foam, fiber, and pocket spring-filled seat cushions and included throw pillows (the ones that match, not the pink ones). One customer even said, "So impressed with this sofa. We ordered two for our living room. They are SO comfortable, substantial, and I feel like the fabric is going to hold up well to our dogs. The fabric is more subtle than a traditional boucle which I love. Super impressed!" Well, there you have it.

There's something cozy about a sofa with arms as tall as the back. This Chesterfield sofa, which is on major sale at Wayfair right now, comes in six colors, including the smokey gray pictured here, navy, and a pink so pale it almost looks white. There's also plenty of space for four people to lounge comfortably, which is great because it boasts a weight capacity of 1,200 pounds.

Anthropologie has an almost unrivaled collection of extremely comfortable couches. If you like to struggle to climb out of a sink-in cushion, this is the sofa for you. The feather-filled cushions are both on the thinner side, but there are two of them, so just try to imagine how comfortable this find is. It's made-to-order so feel free to choose any fabric and color you like.

Leather sofas get a bad rap: they can be hard to clean, stain easily, and are often associated with tasteless bachelor pads. So consider this our PSA to remind you that not all leather couches are tacky. This one, for instance, is one of our favorites because it's so sophisticated and cool. It's also available in six (yes, six) sizes, so it will fit in any space.

Velvet is not only soft to the touch but also adds a moment of elegance to your living space. How We Selected the Most Comfortable Couches
For this piece, Associate Shopping Editors Jessica Cherner and Janae McKenzie spent 20+ hours researching the most comfortable couches on the market. In their search, they evaluated dozens of models for their cushion fill, the feel of their upholstery, and the sturdiness of their frames. They cross-referenced trusted retailers and furniture brands with the fabrics and materials they trusted the most, including velvet, performance polypropylene, down feathers and high-density foam. Although they didn't test every couch themselves, they read through a handful of reviews for every sofa—taking in the good and bad—to determine whether the sofa's promises lived up to the buyer's experience.
What to Look for When Buying Comfortable Couches
There are plenty of factors to look at when determining the most comfortable couches. Here are a few features to take note of:
Fabric: The upholstery of the couch is what you'll sit on every day, and how it feels against your skin is crucial. Performance fabrics are great for homes that are a bit more spill-prone. Galloway, who shares she has two kids and a cat, prefers this type of fabrication for bustling households. Other fabric choices to consider, depending on your style, may be a nubby bouclé for aesthetic purposes or a velvet if you want to add richness in color to a space. Should you hate upholstery, you may want to opt for smooth Italian leather that you can easily clean.
Frame: The frame quite literally holds the sofa together, so Gillick recommends "looking for a frame that is constructed of kiln-dried wood [to prevent warping]." If you want your luxury sofa to last, avoid a construction that doesn't employ cheaply manufactured techniques like stapling. "Investing in a piece with a superior quality frame will ensure that your sofa will outlive you...and your children," he adds.
Hand-Tied Springs: This isn't a required feature, but it's a great bonus way to ensure a comfy couch. You don't necessarily need to find the fanciest and most niche springs, but opting for well-made sofas with sturdy inner workings is key. "The most comfortable sofas have hand-tied springs so that the maker can ensure the piece feels balanced, some of the most exclusive upholstery firms still use the 'old school' method of padding the frame and springs with horsehair," according to Gillick.
Cushions: What you desire out of your cushions, is a bit more personal. While some people like a sink-in feel, others prefer something a bit firmer. You can always go with a down that's wrapped in something else (like fiber) to prevent constant upkeep. "I always prefer a high-density foam core wrapped with down feathers," Gillick admits. "Down cushioning provides the plushest feel for the sitter but can be a nuisance in that the cushions will need to be regularly plumped to maintain their shape."
How Long Should a Sofa Last?
The sofas that are easiest to maintain are ones covered in performance fabric, which is quite literally designed to withstand plenty of wear and tear. So if you have children and/or pets and don't want to spend your free time vacuuming and cleaning your sofa, opt for one in a performance fabric to make it last longer in your house. "Whatever you decide, sofas and beds are the two most important pieces of furniture in your home. Invest in the best sofa you can possibly afford and it can stay with you for life," Gillick says. "It's also much better for the environment to invest once and simply recover to suit changing tastes and trends. Do not cut corners on a sofa to splurge elsewhere! You will absolutely regret it." Basically, don't buy a cheap sofa that you'll have to replace in a year.
