Lisette Melendez, originally from East Harlem and now residing in New Jersey, developed an interest in singing at the age of 12, inspired by her mother and aunt.
Growing up in the inner city, she focused on her singing skills, influenced by artists like “Lisa Lisa.”
In high school, she formed a group, leading her to producer Carlos Berrios.
She gained recognition with the 1988 club hit “Noise” and later signed with Fever Records. Her debut album, “A Day In My Life,” was released in 1991, followed by the successful “True To Life” in 1993.
This second album achieved double platinum status in Japan, and Lisette won a Grammy for “Best New Artist” in 1994.
Lisette Melendez has also branched out to do Spanish/Salsa music and has released “Un Poco De Mi” under Sir George Records.
