Wilmette is a vibrant community comprised of many strong neighborhoods, races, religions, and levels of income. The Village extends approximately five miles west of Lake Michigan and is approximately one mile wide. The Village is a home-rule community with a Village President and Board of Trustees elected at large and a Village Manager who runs the day-to-day operations of the Village. Wilmette was incorporated as a municipal corporation in 1872.
