The Village extends approximately five miles west of Lake Michigan and is approximately one mile wide. The Village is a home-rule community with a Village President and Board of Trustees elected at large and a Village Manager who runs the day-to-day operations of the Village. Wilmette was incorporated as a municipal corporation in 1872.
