Singer and songwriter Terry Ellis began her musical career in 1990 as a member of a group called For You. There were three other members, Dawn Robinson, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones. If those names didn't tip you off, the group later changed its nam!
In the mid '90s the members took a three-year break from recording together. That break gave Ellis a chance to spread her wings and see if she could fly solo. With help from producers Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy, Ellis finished an album of her own, Southern Gal, released under the her own label in 1995. "She's a Lady," "It's You That I Need," and "You Make Me High" are a few of the R&B funk tunes on the debut, some of which Ellis co-wrote. Two of the singles became hits, "Where Ever You Are" and "What Did I Do To You."
