Bolton Wanderers have announced the signing of striker Muhammadu Faal from non-league side Enfield Town.

Faal, who has signed an 18-month contract with the Trotters, initially started his career playing in the Italian youth leagues, has since moved to England, where he has spent time in the non-league system playing for the likes of Dulwich Hamlet, Kingstonian and Enfield.

The striker has been in prolific form for Enfield in the first half of the season, scoring 24 goals in 25 league appearances for the Isthmian Premier League side, in what is the seventh tier of English football.

Speaking to Bolton's official website following confirmation of the move, Faal said: "It feels great to be here. I am ecstatic to have got the deal done and I just can't wait to get started."

Describing the style of play he takes on the pitch, the 22-year-old continued: "First and foremost, I want to say I will work hard for this team. The team always comes first."

"But saying that I like to get on the ball and score goals. I am looking forward to showing the fans what I can do."

Faal joins the club with Wanderers still bottom of League One following their 12 point deduction at the start of the season for entering administration earlier in the year, with subsequent results meaning they are currently 17 points adrift of safety.

The striker could make his debut for the Trotters when they face manager Keith Hill's former club Rochdale at Spotland on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

This looks to be a good signing for Bolton.

While this is admittedly a big step up for Faal, his record for Enfield this season certainly suggests that he has the eye for goal Bolton will need to keep them up this season, and there have been players who have made this sort of transition before.

It is also encouraging to see that Bolton are making moves early in the transfer market again, something which situations behind the scenes at the club have prevented them from doing in recent transfer windows.
