  • He has owned and driven various Mercedes-AMG models, including the Project One and the GTR Safety Car.
  • Hamilton's collection also includes high-performance hypercars such as the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari.

Lewis Hamilton is a name that requires no introduction. He rose up from nothing to become a seven-time F1 world champion, matching a feat that had only previously been managed by the legend, who is Michael Schumacher.

Fortunately for Lewis, winning F1 races pays quite well, so the superstar has been fortunate enough to amass quite an enviable car collection. It's not all supercars and hypercars, although it mostly is, but Lewis has been sure to make time for some classic muscle cars too. He even used to own a private jet, but sold it recently due to a desire to lead a more environmentally friendly life. Even though he is usually seen kicking about in a smart new Mercedes, which is probably to keep his boss happy, he is occasionally spotted piloting something a little more special. These occasional outings give us a glimpse of what the champion has lurking in his private collection.

HotCars has collected information on Lewis Hamilton's car collection from websites such as PlanetF1, and by scouring his private Instagram page to compile this article which gives a glimpse into his stunning hoard of private cars.

Just as the F1 calendar is heating up, the sixth season of Drive To Survive is set to drop in a matter of weeks. Here's everything we know.

Power

620 horsepower

Torque

Hagerty Valuation

The McLaren F1 is becoming a 'must-have' for any serious car collection, but with just over 100 produced in all guises, coming across one isn't an easy feat. What's more, when one does crop up for sale, they fetch a fortune. This early example in silver came up for sale at a Bonhams auction back in 2017 and fetched the handsome sum of $15,620,000. Regardless of who you are, that's not pocket change.

The owner of this example, chassis 044, was not publicly known for some time, but then Lewis was spotted piloting the car, and thus the secret was out. It truly is his perfect car too, as Lewis has always proudly worn the number 44 on his F1 cars – so the stars really did align for this most significant of purchases.

Lewis Hamilton Is Often Seen In A Powerful Mercedes-AMG

Lewis Hamilton Reportedly Owns These Mercedes'

  • Mercedes-AMG Project One
  • Mercedes SLS AMG
  • Mercedes-AMG GTR Safety Car
  • Mercedes-AMG G63 6x6

They might not necessarily be for keeps, but Lewis Hamilton does get free cars. Being a household name and boasting over 36 million Instagram followers clearly has its benefits, especially for Mercedes-Benz, who can lend him flagship AMG models for impactful PR.

He's happy to spend his own money on a Mercedes too though, as can be seen by peering into his eclectic collection. Naturally, a plethora of powerhouses can be found, such as an SLS AMG and G63 6x6, but perhaps more interesting is the Mercedes-AMG GTR Safety Car that Lewis hides within his collection. Just imagine the memories that this car evokes for Lewis. No doubt he's had some stressful laps following the rear end of that very car while fighting for the world championship.

Hypercars In Lewis Hamilton's Collection

  • Ferrari LaFerrari
  • Mercedes-AMG Project One
  • McLaren P1
  • Pagani Zonda 760LH

Most gearheads like to think they have a need for speed, but how many supercar owners can genuinely say they are talented enough to utilize the full potential of their exclusive cars? One such owner who can is Lewis, and he's clearly keen on exploiting his skills on the road as well as the track.

At one point or another, Lewis has owned a Pagani Zonda 760LH, Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and of course, a Mercedes-AMG Project One. The latter packs the 1.6-liter F1 engine that powers his old race car, so he may feel more at home than most owners do in this formidable hypercar. The F1 engine puts out 1,049 horsepower, and it's capable of speeds up to 219 mph.

The Pagani Zonda Owned By Lewis Has Since Been Sold And Crashed

In a similar fashion to how the chassis 044 McLaren suits Lewis's choice racing number, the 'LH' from this Pagani's 760LH title is also perfectly suited for Mr. L.H. himself. However, this time it's no lucky coincidence, rather the LH denotes that this car was always destined for Lewis and manufactured especially for him.

As a model, the Pagani Zonda has been soaring in price in recent years, and Lewis took advantage of this when he auctioned the car off a few years ago. He managed to cash in over $11 million when he sold the car. The new owner suffered some misfortune when taking a drive through scenic Wales and ended up stuffing the multi-million-dollar Pagani straight into a wall – and the whole incident was captured on dashcam footage. Fortunately, he was OK but did suffer from a damaged ego and a sore-looking Pagani. Perhaps this 750-horsepower V12 supercar should have stayed in Hamilton's capable hands after all.

Muscle Cars Owned By Lewis Hamilton

  • 1966 Shelby Cobra 427
  • 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500

Judging by the collection of high-powered exotic sports and supercars that precede this entry, you could be forgiven for thinking that Lewis has no interest in older cars. Reportedly though, the British F1 superstar does have a soft spot for iconic muscle cars and houses two of the finest and most desirable models within his extensive collection.

The lure of a Ford Mustang is too much for even Lewis to resist, so the champion purchased one of the most coveted models available – a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500. These iconic muscle cars can easily fetch north of $300,000, although his next Shelby likely would have cost even more. Accompanying the Mustang is a Cobra 427, produced one year earlier. The Shelby Cobra is without doubt one of the coolest and most recognizable American cars ever produced, so it's no wonder that Lewis felt compelled to add one to his impressive collection.
