I graduated from Urbana High School in 2022. I think overall my experience was very positive. I can confidently say that I felt that the student’s safety was always prioritized. I valued the relationships I had with teachers as they truly wanted to see their students succeed. Through required readings, projects, tests, and class participation, I felt prepared for college. Although I did not participate in the school sports, I went to watch many of the games along with hundreds of other students and parents to show my school spirit. I would like to see Frederick County Public Schools allow students to leave during lunch hours to go get food or even walk around on school property. Some students who are not taking a physical activity course will not have the opportunity to get outside until the end of the day. Allowing students to go outside during their designated lunchtime could be beneficial to the students.
This is my last year here at FHS. I'm a senior, and so far, I love this school. The teachers are great; the building is clean and neat, and all the staff is very committed to creating and maintaining a suitable environment for all the students. Other students here at FHS are very friendly and welcoming. I'm glad to be part of one FHS cadet's generation!
Frederick County Public Schools is a phrase that garners mixed emotions. There were some members of the teaching staff that I will remember for the rest of my life fondly and some of the administration staff that were a consistent source of discussions that were not in the best light. My years in the Magnet and Advanced learning programs are attributes that I would recommend to everyone. However, this district's treatment - or lack thereof - of students with learning disabilities was cause for several appeals which resulted in certain individuals being discharged from their positions within this county. On top of this, the Magnet and Advanced learning programs have since been discontinued due to budget concerns, which elevates the issue of quality of education within Frederick County Public Schools. I understand that the quality of education across America is in crisis, but I feel that certain aspects of FCPS could be solved with immediate attention if they were to be simply looked at.
