Saurav Chauhan, a 23-year-old batter from Gujarat, made his debut for Bangalore in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Rajasthan on Saturday, April 6 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. He replaced Anuj Rawat in the RCB playing XI. Skipper Faf du Plessis showed faith in the youngster to deliver in the high-profile tournament.

“Not many people know him (Saurav Chauhan), he has some serious amount of skill and batting power, looks like a nice and calm guy,” Du Plessis said during toss.

Chauhan is the son of Dilip Chauhan, who works as a groundsman in Ahmedabad. In the auction that took place last year in December, he was picked up by RCB at his base price of INR 20 lakh.

"I attended two selection camps this year. One was of Delhi and the other by RCB. I am very happy that I got selected in RCB. I would like to dedicate my success to my coach Tarak Trivedi, my parents and to the Gujarat Cricket Association that helped me a lot," Saurav said.

In his debut IPL match, Saurav scored 9 runs off 6 balls with a six before Yuzvendra Chahal accounted for his wicket.

How has Saurav Chauhan performed?

Saurav has been plying his trade for Gujarat since making his debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 against Kerala in Gujarat. Later that year, in December, he made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

In February 2022, Saurav forayed into first-class cricket for Gujarat. In his T20 career, Saurav has played 20 matches and has scored 473 runs at an average of 27.82 and a strike-rate of 152.09 with 4 half-centuries and a top score of 84 not out to show for his efforts.

In the previous edition of SMAT, Saurav scored 251 runs from 8 games at an average of 35.85 and a strike-rate of 184.55 with 2 fifties and a top score of 61 to his name. He also has 2 centuries and 4 half-centuries, combining first-class and List A cricket.
