Golden Age of Survival Horror
My collection has grown a bit since last year. Expanding from only "true" survival horror titles to also include generally horror themed games. There is just something with this genre of games that peak my interest. No matter if the horror is primarily action oriented (Resident Evil), psychological (Silent Hill) or existential (Litte Britan). Which title is your favourite?
Nice collection, just missing rule of rose lol only a bucks on ebay 😉
The holy trinity (as in Rule of Rose, Kuon and Michigan: Report from Hell) are still missing, and they won't be added anytime soon with current prices!
Yeah I wish I picked up Michigan when it was around £80. Stupid me thinking that was steep.
Is RR still high ? I gave that one to my son . I wasn’t a fan of Kuon or or the Haunting ground so I got rid of those shortly after I got them. Horror was my favourite genre as well on the PS2.
You should think about buying import versions of those. I know rule of rose is spoken English only with Japanese subs in the NTSC-J version.
And Kuon, that one’s also one of the more expensive ones nowdays.
Th game is no good though, at least rule of rose is good lol
Ehhh, very much depends on person you ask from.
Rule of Rose gets lot of harsh critique because of it's clunky combat, repetitive stages and slower paced plot. Personally I enjoy Kuon more than Rule of Rose due the game's setting, upgrades, enemy designs and replayability alone, but I do think plot wise I think RoR takes the cake - however, I definitely could see why someone would think otherwise. I also think it hits home in terms of horror and atmosphere much better than Rule of Rose, for me personally at least. Different strokes for different people, you know.
It definitely is one of survival horror classics though, whether one likes the game or not.
i started playing ror (opl ftw) and no. The setting and atmosphere are great and Ill totally finish it some day, but gameplay is very poor. No wonder its so rare...

Literally the only game I emulate cause I won’t pay $300 for that. Sad 😞
The suffering gave me a few good scares back in the day. Which one of these is your favorite for scare factor?
Little Britaain is so scary it makes me physically sick
What a recommendation
I agree, Little Britain was horrific.
Silent Hill 2 have special place in my heart. Absolute masterpiece.
Silent Hill 2 is still my favorite horror game of all time, truly a masterpiece.
Great collection.i have like a third of what you show, but I'm not a huge survival horror fan (I live alone lol).
I recommend second sight, its not survival horror, more of a psychological thriller. But it's a great game
Also both manhunt games qualify as survival horror, on the gore side of things
Haunted Mansion is one of those surprisingly great licensed Disney games. Spooked me as a kid and still fun to play today.
The price for this collection must be crazy! I’ve tried to get my hands on some of those titles and they’re pricey to say the least
There's only a couple here over 100, this collection couldn't be more then 2000-3000
Idk about you but to me that’s a lot for some retro ps2 games lol… still wish I could get me hands on them tho
It is a lot but it's obtainable if you REALLY want them.
For me I have a system for getting these without using my main income but it's pretty convoluted and time consuming. I have literally started selling games buy buying up big lots and selling individual games under market value in order to not use my own income. Only expensive games I care about though are the SH games and I am down to only needing 2 left.
My main point was that most of these are under 100
Oh hell yeah, Siren and Siren 2. Beat those recently, fantastic games.
Echo Night and Haunting Ground cost too much for proper alphebetization
Code Veronica > 4
The knife was OP in CV. I would have a ton of ammo by the end of the game.
The knife was OP because it was possible to deadlock yourself
Idk what you mean. I'm talking about kneecapping zombies and stun locking dogs.
This, played it this year for the first time on my dreamcast, capcom dropped the ball with RE4. Also I remember back when CV was announced as biohazard 4 for the dreamcast.
Code Veronica should have been 4 and 4 to be 5. 4 feels more spin offy than Code Veronica. If they didn’t add Krauser it would have 0 to do with the main plot.
Where does he even appear besides RE4? He also seemed disconnected. Ada if anything connects it more to the main plot.
Still at least it was better than the connected RE5. Still haven't finished that one since I got it on steam yeeeeaaaars ago.
Leon is one of the most recurring characters he is in 2, 4, 6, Image comics, two books, briefly in 3, briefly in Code Veronica, and Darkside Chronicles
Nice, Michigan report from hell and rule of rose are still my holy grails to get. I'd suggest zombie attack or zombie zone next
I loved The Thing but I swear, it would always cause my lens on the fat ps2 to move and I would need to re-adjust it before playing non-blue disk games.
It’s the only game I had that would do that. Iirc mvc2 was also blue disk but I never had that problem
I don't see this in your collection but way back in like 2007 I borrowed a survival horror game from a friend and can't for the life of me remember what it is.
All I remember is that you are a guy at a private school or something similar and there is this black flower that everyone takes as a drug (I think) and when this guy does it the world changes into some dark/creepy alternate world.
Any horror PS2 buffs have any ideas?
Sounds like Obscure 2 to me, and it's in the picture ;-) I can highly recommend revisiting it!
You know, I looked at that cover and thought it looked familiar but dismissed it, I'm gonna have to watch a little gameplay to see if it's the same thing. Thanks!
Now that's a legit set of games!
Little Britain? How’s that a horror game?

Did you play through all of them? What would be your Top Ten list? I‘m still working on my PS2 wishlist. Personally I don’t plan to buy every horror game but to have at least all the games I like.
I haven't finished all of them yet as some are quite janky to say the least. Many times I started up a game just to play an hour or two before revising some of the more solid titles. If you want to start somewhere I'd suggest Silent Hill 2, Fatal Frame 2 and Resident Evil 4 as those titles are great stepping stones and perfectly encapsules what an unqiue experience the PS2 horror genre provided.
honest question: why did you say ff2 instead of the first one? I know the second one is regarded as better, but it didn't grab me as much as the first one did
I have a soft spot for FF1 and it's actually my most liked entry in the series. The atmosphere is amazing and one of the scariest games I've ever played. However, I don't think it holds up as well as FF2 in terms of core gamplay and general design as it is much more unforgivning (fewer healing items and save points) a lot of frustrating moments like confusing puzzles, backtracking and random encounters.
I loved all the things you didn't love about PZ1/FF1. The arcadey feel for the camera obscura, timing your shots and charging them added a great adrenaline rush to get you through the oppressive spookiness. Some of those random encounters really were horribly unfair though, especially if you're backtracking for health items. Great collection man!
Damn nice collection u have there
My brother in Christ, where is RE4?!
EDIT: I’ve never seen that cover art before! Sick.
I haven’t played Resident Evil Dead Aim, Survivor, or Outbreak. How are they?
I think the Outbreak series has its moments and are worth a playthrough if you like Code Veronica. Not a fan of light gun shooters so Dead Aim and Survivor never really stood a chance… Dead Aim is quite okay whilst Survivor is really really really bad
The Thing doesn't get enough love!
It was a great game to a great movie!
I'm a bit confused about little Britain, been here.
where's fatal frame
It's in there. Second row, towards the middle. He has the Project Zero versions
You know they're a chad when they got Gregory Horror Show
nice collection!
Only missing rule of rose, me to btw...
I only have 4 of these but I have 1 you are missing, Galerians:Ash 😉
Wow that's a sexy collection you got there
I'm saving this picture for reference
The suffering hell yeah

Man little britain was really intense. I mean can you imagine those "british people" actually existing i would be really scared. Thank the good lord its just fiction
Yes I’ve been playing the thing on ps2 emulation on one of the 5 android phones I use for gameboys now lol
What's Curse the Eye of Isis like? Any good?
I love this post. I also have 19 of these games
Any go for a decent price anymore?
I enjoyed extermination and the suffering.
I didn’t know Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare got a PS2 release. In the U.S we only got it on PS1
Golden age of a lot of stuff. Rhythm; Kart; Puzzle; Fighting; Mecha; Movie, TV & Cartoon tie-ins/franchises; Platforming; Action-Adventure; RPG; Racing; Compilations; New IPs; Survival Horror; Sim; MMO; 3rd Person Shooter; First Person Shooter? (Probably, right? Such a variety...), etc.
PS2 just had such volume, and GCN & Xbox added their own chart toppers, new genres, new IPs, etc. Part of me misses that era of walking into a used game store and finding a literal stack of hidden gems and hilarity to take home on the cheap. Looking back, kind of bothers me to think that all of that was sold at full price at some point.
Indie/small dev games becomming the new "oh my gosh this bin is full of things I've never even knew existed" is fine, too. The industry really left that low-tier stuff behind for low-budget studios to take on, an have condensed "what sells" down to a science for all of the "triple-A" stuff.
Video games are neat.
Obscure has lived up to it's name. Obscure, but hella underrated game. One of the greatest soundtracks for horror games ever, coop mode and good story. Shame this game never hit the charts
Do you happen to have...ah... Infestation? RE Like game in a snow base
Never heard of it! Maybe never released in EU? Or perhaps you mean Extermination which is very RE inspired and indeed takes place in a snow base? Very good game!
Yessss Extermination! I only ever played it on a demo disk never got a chance to play it full
I couldn’t finish little Britain as a kid , it was too scary for me to even play ….
You need the Onimusha games, great series !
Little Britain is literally the scariest game to play out of all of these games. Couldn't sleep for days after playing it! Truly horrifying stuff!
I'm playing the thing right now on my Ayn odin. Extremely advanced for it's time
Nice collection. Gotta get Michigan, though. What a wonderfully cheesy horror game from the early days of Suda.
Sooooo many great ones
Holy hell this is a great collection
By far the shortest lived mainstream genre in gaming.
Resident Evil 1 was the mega hit that popularized the genre. Silent Hill 2 was the genre masterpiece. Resident Evil 4 (no hate for RE4 great game) killed it by focusing more on the action side of Survival Horror.
1996 - 2005.
