All The Sad Young Men (The Cambridge Edition of the Works of F. Scott Fitzgerald) First Edition

This volume of the Cambridge Fitzgerald Edition includes the original nine stories selected by Fitzgerald for All the Sad Young Men, together with eleven additional stories, published between 1925 and 1928, which were not collected by Fitzgerald during his lifetime. This edition is based on extensive surviving manuscripts and typescripts. The volume contains a scholarly introduction, historical notes, a textual apparatus, illustrations, and appendices. The complex history of composition for 'The Rich Boy' is untangled, and Fitzgerald's thorough revision of 'Winter Dreams' is described. Important passages of sexual innuendo and tabloid-style scandal in 'Jacob's Ladder', 'The Love Boat', and 'Magnetism' - removed by editors at the Saturday Evening Post - are restored to the Cambridge texts.

Disappointing print. Faded text, crooked lines of text

Disappointing print. Faded text, crooked lines of text
This is strictly a review of the hard cover print of the book. See the included photos. The font size is obnoxiously large, but the bigger problem IMO is the print on the paper is really faded on a lot of the pages throughout the book. I'm only 100 pages into it but you can flick through the pages and see that it's a problem with the entire book. I've also found that there are lines of text that aren't even straight on some pages. It's really such a poor quality that the publisher should be embarrassed that they let these leave the warehouse. I had read one review mentioning this issue previous to buying but didn't think it could be that bad, and I was wrong.

In this collection of short stories we can enjoy Fitzgerald at his most exhilarating and at his most brooding moments alike. The theme is similar in most of the stories but never stereotyped. Each of the sad young men has his own story to tell, which is always absorbing. Wealth, parties, courtship, carefree life, blissfulness. And behind all these, disaster is always ambushing. Just to remind us the vanity. To make us contemplate that money, success, love - and even happiness- can be vanished on the spur of the moment...
Moralists would condemn him. Feminists would hate him. Yet, the huge crowd of his followers adored him and the fact that, more than 70 years after his death, his writings gain more and more recognition attests to the greatness of Fitzgerald's work.
