Elizabeth Hurley Laments The Royals‘ Disappointing Ending, Offers No Hope for Season 5: ‘The Sets Were Burned’
It’s been more than a year since The Royals‘ reign at E! reached a premature end, but fans — and series star Elizabeth Hurley, apparently — are still mourning the loss of the Henstridge monarchy.
During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live on Monday, Hurley was asked by a caller if she was satisfied with the show’s conclusion. “No,” she replied. “We didn’t expect it to end. Everybody thought there would definitely be a fifth season, so the storylines weren’t really finished properly. I think a lot of the fans were upset that we didn’t tie up loose ends. We were upset, too, in a way.”
As fans (aka Loyals) will recall, the show’s fourth season finale — which ultimately served as its series finale, following its sudden cancellation — ended with Robert (Max Brown) becoming King of England, Jasper (Tom Austen) and Eleanor (Alexandra Park) getting pre-engaged, Violet unexpectedly reuniting with Cyrus (Jake Maskall), and Kathryn confirming that she’s pregnant… hopefully with Liam’s (William Moseley) baby. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled shortly thereafter, which means we may never know how any of those stories would have panned out.
In fact, that same WWHL caller also asked Hurley if there’s any hope for a fifth season, to which she replied, “Unlikely. I think the sets were burned. They’re gone.”
Then again, The Royals was plagued with problems long before it was ultimately terminated. Following allegations of sexual harassment, creator/showrunner Mark Schwahn was fired from the show in 2017, shortly after production wrapped on Season 4.
If you’re looking for your Royals fix, however, you’re in luck, as several of the show’s stars are now involved in new projects. Hurley is joining the third and final season of Marvel’s Runaways (Hulu) as the villainous Morgan le Fay, while Austen was recently cast in Marvel’s long-gestating Helstrom series (Hulu).

I still missed the show. This was the only show i was watching E!. İ was courios why Willow say yes and Robert really love her or not. But mostly i would love to see Jasper and Eleanor.
Jasper and the Princess had amazing chemistry. Some network needs to at least pick up the last season for a finale.

I know that a link was provided, but I feel like only saying, “Following allegations of sexual harassment, creator/showrunner Mark Schwahn was fired from the show in 2017…” is a massive understatement in an article about a show that ended abruptly. Over 40 women from his shows came out against him as a sexual predator. That’s A LOT. No wonder it wasn’t wrapped up properly.
We need a season 5 there are so many things that happened that needs to be answered. I was devastated about the endings what happened to so many characters you guys can do a season 5. This is an awesome show.Bring it back please ❣️❣️❣️💜💯👸🤴💂🎺👑👑👑
I really liked the show as a guilty pleasure. Well, until we discovered Robert was actually evil, which pretty much ruined it for me.
I enjoyed the show and hate that it was cancelled. Now I will always wonder what the fifth season would have brought! Maybe another network will pick it up? That has happened before!
I really miss the show and really wish another network would pick it up. This was a phenomenol cast with great storylines. Please, please, please bring it back!!
I am a #LoyalRoyalFan I have been dedicated to this show from the very beginning. I was so disappointed with the finale ending the way it did! We #Loyals feel like the rug was literally pulled from underneath us! I know that myself & many other “Loyals” are still holding on to hope that we will get a #Season5 or maybe a #Royals movie.

What did Robert say to Willow to change her mind before the wedding? Where did they take Kathryn? Where had Violet been? Who killed Jack? How in the royal world does Queen Helena exist with another queen in the palace? JaspLen wedding!!
As a retired person I am able to binge-watch series that I enjoy. I recently stumbles on The Royals and before I knew it I was hooked. I watched all 4 seasons in 2 days and was totally disappointed that the show came to an abrupt end leaving so many plots hanging and questions unanswered. You owe it to your viewers to find a way to resurrect this show and bring it to an acceptable conclusion.

absolutely gutted that there won’t be any more seasons.loved every episode.never have I had my emotions thrown from one end to another so quickly.one minute your laughing,the next cringing or sad.
I certainly hope they at least can do a wrap-up movie or miniseries! The show had really hit it’s stride in 4, each episode more intense than the last, and then BAM, you’ve left me hanging! It the E! gods have any kindness in them, they’ll give us the final defeat of King Robby the Royal Rat, the rehabilitation (well, just a LITTLE) of King Cyrus the Sly (returned to Duke of York?) and the Coronation of King Liam the Beloved. Plus I want to see Helena reconcile with Sebastian, and a Happy Married Ending for Jaspenor!!!
I am binge watching The Royals on Prime. Just what I need to get thru this wretched year. Make Season 5!
That rat Schwan hurt a lot of people, including the fans of The Royals because there well never be any closure for this series now. Who needs that jerk to finish this show up though? I wish a network would change it’s mind and pull us up from the cliff and give the great cast and crew their jobs back! So, so many people want that! Any company that gives us back the Henstridge monarchy will be a hero in Hollywood to me. (Or at least a finale movie, come on PLEASE!)
Lame ending, fans deserve better than THAT!! Typical Hollywood politics and corporate greed no doubt led to this shows cancellation. Remarkable acting but disappointing ending. Shame.
My husband and I just got done watching the four seasons and loved every minute of it. Please, please bring back more series. Can’t wait to watch.
Just finished binge watching the Royals and absolutely loved it. It definitely needs a fifth season. The chemistry between Tom Austen and Alexandra Parks was amazing. Jasper needs to be knighted and he and Eleanor marry. Liam should become king. Then, although I would like the series to continue, the series can end with a feel good finale.
Jasper’s father blackmailed King Robert into Knighting Jasper so he could be in a relationship with Eleanor. You must have missed that bit.
Love this show, it seems like a lot of shows have no ending. I was really hoping that more episodes or another season would be filmed. Maybe soon

I was dieing to see the series continue. It would be fantastic if someone picked up the show. Sets don’t have to be perfectly the same… we just want the characters back on our TV screens.
