Though the decor maybe could use a refresh the entire place was clean and all ice and vending machines clean and working. The breakfast buffer was delicious and kept freshly stocked with a wide variety of choices. The Staff were all exceptionally warm and pleasant as well as competent. The bed and bathroom linens were fresh and clean. The frige and microwave were great! The available computer and printer in the breakfast room were very handy! The mattress was a bit lumpy but not all that bad and the carpet in the room had more than a few stains but none of it was bothersome.

We stayed here for 5 days the week of Thanksgiving. The staff was very professional and helpful. The common areas and the pool area were very clean.
We arrived pretty late but I disinfected the room anyway (even before COVID, I’d always travel with disinfecting wipes). When I wiped down the bathroom counter, I collected a bunch of black hairs that looked like facial hair clippings - gross! That didn’t give me confidence that the room had been appropriately sanitized! There were also about a dozen hairs on the bathroom floor. Since it was late at night I knew there wasn’t housekeeping staff on duty so I finished cleaning the bathroom myself. The rest of the room was clean.
We also discovered as soon as we went to bed that our bed caved in towards the middle! VERY uncomfortable. Again, we’d have mentioned it to the front desk and asked to change rooms if it wasn’t late and night and we’d already unloaded a truck full of 4 people’s luggage into the room. (This is room 103, the bed nearest the window.) I looked under the bed and noticed that it sagged just an inch above the ground! That’s a seriously bad and uncomfortable mattress :(
The hotel is right next to the highway so the highway noise is constant. Once I put my earplugs in, I slept like a baby. But if you’re sensitive to night noise, like me, you will definitely want earplugs.
The remote to the TV only worked about 1 out of every 8 times. Fortunately we don’t watch much TV, so we didn’t ask for a new remote.
Overall this hotel is WAY better than the Wyndham we stayed at last year, which is a few miles down the road. We would stay here again, but not in room 103 unless they replace that bed!

The facility was clean, pool and work out rooms were adequate. Was not sure who were staff because they blended in with the guests. Ladies at the front desk were helpful and check was quick. I spoke with a staff member on Saturday morning and she began to complain she may have to work 16 hrs today, call ins and short staff. This location is next to the highway, so road noise was high. The hotel room doors slammed closed, so very noisy for late night arrivals. The decor is aged and carpet is stained. Our chair cushion was shredded and the blow-dryer did not operate. Bathroom tubs are in need of an upgrade and our shower rod was bent in the middle, so the curtain did not stay put. The toilets flushed with force, that is a good thing but felt like it was about to burst under the floor. The breakfast and coffee were hot, good selection.

I’m furious!!! No one told me that this hotel was under construction before booking. It was a disaster! Everything torn apart, plastic hanging everywhere! The check in was in a demolished hotel room, there was a bath tub in the check in area! The carpet was filthy! My daughter, Lisa, gave up 9000 of her HI points so I could get my room for $60.00. It was nasty. She should get her points returned! She and I spoke to the hotel directly, and no one mentioned renovations. I live in, Howell and had company visiting me from Indiana, so I booked a room, so I could spend more time with them. I was so embarrassed! They were just as upset as I was, and they had to spend a lot of money on their room. I will tell everyone I talk to, not to go there. If they’re going to book under construction, they need to tell people, and give them a discount rate……..Shame On You!

This property accomplished our goal for our one night stay of being conveniently located between a Friday funeral and a football Saturday, with nearby golf course and restaurants to fill in the time between events. However, as a regular customer of many Holiday Inn Express properties, the Howell hotel did not provide the consistent experience which keeps me a loyal HI Express customer. Many signs of a tired building were noticed throughout. It was a clean building, but a thorough freshening and attention to repairs is in high need. The area which was glaringly the biggest disappointment was breakfast. What is a Holiday Inn Express without a decadent cinnamon roll? It did not appear from the dining are setup that my favorite rolls are ever offered. The healthy part of my typical HI Express breakfast - oatmeal - was also not available. The Quaker Oats unit was displayed on the counter, but nothing inside. There was also a pancake station where the machine sat unused because there was no batter to put in the machine or fixings for potential pancakes. The muffins that were offered were stale; sausage was burnt. I was grateful to enjoy a bowl of Raisin Bran after all else failed - though no banana offered to slice over the top of my cereal. I would stay at this hotel again because of the location, but my morning check out would be followed by breakfast across the street at Leo's Coney Island.

We took our granddaughter and stayed in the motel for two nights for a graduation party. The room was spacious and clean. The only problem we had is when we returned from the party our room hadn't been cleaned, I called down to desk and was told you have to ask for the room to be cleaned. So we had to get fresh towels for the next morning.

After a very long drive through Labor Day traffic, it was late when we arrived at the Holiday Inn Express in Howell. We were tired and found ourselves in a non-accessible room. Jared Jones was working the desk and he went above and beyond to get us into an accessible room, even helping with moving the bags. He was cheerful and offered pleasant greetings to other guests. He asked about how we were the next day. He was consistently professional yet kind and friendly to everyone. He is a true asset to the hotel!

I need to say up front that I did not stay here but I need to write this review. My daughter was home from college, traveling from the Detroit area to see some friends at MSU on MLK day. She took the car that my son uses when she is at college. My son had his baseball bags in the back, though he knew that she was taking the car, and he has a “showcase” with the new varsity baseball coach today. My daughter called after about an hour into her drive asking if her brother had gotten his stuff from the back. Of course not. She pulled off of I-96 and stopped at this Holiday Inn Express. She explained the situation and asked if f she could leave the bags there so I could pick them up. She also offered for me to pay when I get there. The host( I didn’t get his name) said sure and would not take any money. With this being said, I obviously did not stay and can’t comment on the rooms. I can say that the lobby was clean and they had fresh cookies waiting for people checking in. The same host was there and was incredibly nice when I arrived. I hope corporate sees this and I can’t express enough thanks for the kindness that you showed!!! Thank you!

What a dump. They claim they're under renovations temporarily however one of the staff told me that it's been going on for a long time. The lobby is in a small, cluttered room with a bathtub in it. The front desk staff also do other tasks away from the "front desk" so I had to wait a while three times before they came back to their desk. The wallpaper is peeling off the walls all over the hotel. The front sliding door was broken so one had to hand slide it open and closed. The hotel is right next to the highway and on ramp so it's very loud. We had to hunt down sheets and blankets, and were not given a blanket because they didn't have any clean ones so they gave us a bunch of sheets. The breakfast was meager and pretty gross. There are far better places to stay than this.
