Very strange Lorenzo Lamas vehicle in which he utilizes his mystical Cambodian (yeah…he’s part Cambodian in this movie) powers in order to defeat the bad guys. There’s a part where he moves sand pebbles through the power of prayer!
Drags a little in the middle and is arguably too self serious for its own good, but that’s also admittedly part of the cheesy charm. Delivers on the action, particularly in the heroic bloodshed esque finale.
I’d say it’s more memorable than a lot of its contemporaries thanks to the odd touches, worth checking out. Also check out the directors other film when you can as it’s EASILY one of the best and most ridiculous 90s dtv action films you’ll ever see. A shame he didn’t make more stuff, he really understood what makes this kind of movie work.
Standard DTV action joint for the most part, but some vivid fight scenes do a lot of good. Lorenzo Lamas has excellent kicking skills, and he’s a solid leading man. James Lew is fantastic as always with his magnetic screen presence. Good 90s fun, and a shout-out to that cool poster.
Lorenzo "The Zopf" Lamas vs. Yakuza.
Peak ‘90s crap. Squibs galore, a youth center, “I’m making the community a safer place,” Lorenzo Lamas has a ponytail and speaks Cambodian and is in his underwear a lot, plus editing and choreography you could comfortably term “good.”
My 9,000th. Letterboxd Film Review
Actor Lorenzo Lamas(BODY ROCK,NIGHT OF THE WARRIOR,BOUNTY TRACKER) stretches his acting reach in portraying a martial arts skilled half-Cambodian police detective in this exciting Straight-To-VHS video that has Lamas and his police team being caught in the mists of an underworld war between Russian mobsters and Cambodian mobsters, with a sharply skilled martial arts expert assassin(James Lew[RED SUN RISING,TIMECOP]) sent to hunt after Lamas' team and kill them one at a time, driving Lamas to deeply re-connect with his Cambodian roots and his spiritual martial arts training if he is to fully defeat Lew and save the day.
Released on VHS video as BLOOD FOR BLOOD,MIDNIGHT MAN has director John Weidner(PRIVATE WARS,SPACE MARINES) keeping the film swiftly…
Lorenzo Lamas shoots a lot of guys. Lorenzo Lamas beats the hell out of a lot of guys. Lorenzo Lamas sword fights a guy.
Insane to me that in the era of the streaming wars where any property that ever had any value is dredged up and reanimated to horrendous results, no studio has thought to just churn out action movies where a karate cop tries to stop Cambodian criminals who may or may not be supernatural
Någon slags "4 action movies for the price of one"-grej. Midnight man levererade ändå.
A bit too sedate for a film in which Lorenzo Lamas discovers he's part of a secret Cambodian warrior cult.
