Do-it-yourself Tyrol: flights, costs and tips
Tyrol is a region whose daily life is quite expensive, both for restaurant meals and for shopping. The high season is winter, when prices are higher and the best-known ski resorts are taken by storm; summer, on the other hand, with its lake activities and hiking trails is more affordable.
From Italy, it is not convenient to reach Tyrol by flight, as there are few airlines and they do not operate direct routes; for this reason, costs can also be high for the route, especially in the high season. Train connections from Italy are also not entirely recommended, especially if you are travelling with all your sports equipment (especially in winter). The best solution is to reach the main locations in Tyrol by car, taking the Brenner Motorway, the A22, which starts in Modena.
Minimum period for a tour in Tyrol: 6 days
Recommended base cities: Innsbruck and Lienz for city tours and small mountain villages; Kitzbuhel for sports activities
Gettingaround: in addition to the car, the ideal means of transport for getting around in the mountains, the Tyrol boasts an efficient public transport system, run by the VVT company, which also offers combined solutions for easy access to the various locations
Flights: from Italy it is not convenient to reach Tyrol by flight, as there are few companies and they do not operate direct routes. The reference airport is Innsbruck
