Cage Lyrics
Screaming in isolation
Walking through desolation alley
Boarded up our ambitions
Flooded out all the engines
I've been punching through the walls, I've been living on the edge
I've been fighting with my demons so long they've become my friends
The zombies at the window say it's finally the end
So I'm kicking down my door and never closing it again
[Chorus]
Hey! I'm coming out of my heartless, hopeless rage
I'm coming out of my cell, my broken cage
Woah-oh-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh-oh
[Post-Chorus]
Get me out of my cage
[Verse 2]
Drive you straight out the city
You can live in a ghost town with me
We can dig in the gold mine
Look for treasure we won't find
I can dream all that I want, but I'm not going any place
I can tell you all my feelings when I'm staring into space
And the road is an illusion I just keep to pass the days
I'm counting down the seconds 'til I'm making my escape
Hey! I'm coming out of my heartless, hopeless rage
I'm coming out of my cell, my broken cage
I said, woah-oh-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh-oh, yeah
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
Hey! I'm coming out of my heartless, hopeless rage
I'm coming out of my cell, my broken cage
I said, woah-oh-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh-oh, yeah
[Outro]
I said, woah-oh-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh-oh
I said, woah-oh-oh-oh (Woah-oh-oh-oh), coming out of my cage
Coming out tonight, yeah

Because we’ve been living with the coronavirus so long, we’d all gone through a couple of years of not really knowing what was gonna happen to us or what the long-term effects of the virus really were. So it was easy to come up with the idea that we all felt caged in. We all felt like we’d been living in Night of the Living Dead, where the zombies at the window have got in and we’ve had to make friends with them. The lyrics practically wrote themselves because we were so in touch with what we’ve been going through. Even though it was written during the pandemic, it could really apply to any time in your life when you feel society or everything around you is constraining you.
