I wrote this on Wattpad but I am creating a rewrite here on ao3 because it's just better. I have the same username on here (ocelotsrock6) as I do on Wattpad, so of you'd like to check out the original, you know where to go! I will definitely be changing a couple things in the story though, so it may not definitively match up with the original because I have more of a plan, now.
After Mike agrees to let the children have Abby, contrary to canon, he fails in saving her from her fate. Abby is springlocked in the doll-like suit "Ella" (because I've read that's what it's called, there are NO original characters in this story!!!), and Mike has to learn to face the twisted consequences of his own twisted decisions.

As always, it starts with the phone call, elaborate plans, follow the script. Break and prepare again for the next. Years later no one's the wiser and the cycle continues.... Head down, keep up the act, and continue. Don't even bat an eye. Survive.
Instead of the next loser nobody (that no one would ever miss of course), he says this one's "different". "Special". Very important to follow through for some reason she doesn't care to listen or know about. But when she shows up on autopilot mode during a stormy night for her normal opening act, she almost immediately knows somethings off and for the first time in a while risks faltering. And while firmly under HIS thumb and constant surveillance by their original victims, survival is no longer the most challenging task she has to face. And suddenly Mike Schmidt isn't the only one she's trying to keep in the dark and put a front on for. For the first time in years (maybe ever) she's starting to question and challenge everything she's ever known and stood for. And maybe discover even more she was never aware of.(Inspired more closely by the movie novel, told from everyone else's POV, esp the Murder Family.)

For a brief while there was some rekindled joy in the Schmidt Family. But Mike probably should have figured it was too good to last.
Aunt Jane woke up with minimal recollection of the events that left her with a week-long migraine. But whatever knocked her out didn’t stop her from taking custody of Abby, and, if anything, made her efforts all the more focused.
When she successfully constructs a case that she is the more competent caregiver, Mike must work hard to prove to the court that he can get his nose clean if he wants any chance of getting Abby back in his custody.
At least the steps in front of him are straightforward enough: Work a Stable Job, Find a New Place to Live, and Go to Court-Ordered Counseling.
Of course, that would all be a lot easier if he didn’t recently start hearing a mechanical voice in his head trying to force him to go to Utah for some reason.
Oh and the doctor said Vanessa may never wake up.
But other than that, he’s fine. He’ll uh. He’ll figure it out. Probably.
