Description du produit
EU-only two CD collection. Ann-Margret was considered by many to be one of the world's most beautiful women and she became very popular in Hollywood and on the cabaret circuit in America during the early 1960s. Here on this much anticipated collection of Ann's early career we focus on three complete albums: And Here She Is, on the Way Up and the Vivacious One plus 13 bonus tracks. Features her biggest pop hit, 'I Just Don't Understand' which was covered by the Beatles. This material has been off the market for some time and has built up a huge demand so hurry while stocks last!

The 1961 debut album was arranged and conducted by Marty Paich as a big-budget production with fresh brassy charts, but the material is both tired and predictable. There are five standout cuts, however: "Teach me tonight" (which cries out for modulations Olsson and Paich don't deliver), "More than you know," "Kansas City" (cf. Brenda Lee's similar cover and you'll probably prefer Miss Brenda), "I should care" and "Lovie Joe." The followup album was laid down in Nashville with Chet Atkins producing very routinely and in Hollywood with RCA's usually reliable Dick Peirce [sic] producing, and it's uniformly corny and severely dated. In a sea of saccharine there are only four true keepers, the Peggy Lee smash "Fever," that Presley guy's "Heartbreak hotel," "Let me go lover" and a rather fine version of "Moon River" (that's entertainment, A-M Olsson sings Princess Audrey and Lyricist Laureate Johnny Mercer).
Everyone had a better year in 1962, A-M included. As her film career really took flight she reunited with Peirce in Hollywood for the thoroughly solid album VIVACIOUS (brunette) ONE, arranged and conducted by Joe Reisman and H.B. Barnum. I like nearly all the tracks here, particularly "Make love to me," "C'est si bon" and "Rock and roll waltz," where we hear A-M covering seasoned hitmakers Jo Stafford and Kay Starr with demonstrably increased confidence. And the absolute killer is the unusually inspired cover of "Begin the beguine," where A-M finds more romance and tropical glamour in the Cole Porter lyrics than any singer I know (in her singing phase, A-M ought have made an elegant all-Porter album just before he left us in 1964). I'd want Jasmine's smoothly remastered compilation for that stunning track alone, but there are still the really lame bonus singles to contend with, where the only real standouts are "How lovely to be a woman" and "It's a grand night for singing" as aural adjuncts to the redheaded Swede's visual vivacity on the big screen.
