Thompson was traded to the Lakers in the middle of the 1986-1987 season to back up center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Though he only played four-and-a-half seasons in Los Angeles, he helped the team win back-to-back championships alongside Magic Johnson, Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy, all of whom were No. 1 overall picks.
