Completely wacky fun read for children. Similar humour to Roald Dahl, lovely simple illustrations.

I wanted to buy some books for my neice’s son that I remembered from my childhood. I remember Prince Charles narrating this book on Jackanory. So I was delighted that this was still available. A lovely book to read to a child. My niece was thrilled to receive it and she has read it three times so far to her son.

Will be a keepsake eventually as Prince Charles is now king.

Let's be honest, the reason you're considering buying this is due to its author. It's not a hopeless book, but it's neither particularly charming, nor particularly amusing, nor particularly fun, nor particularly magical, nor is it a great story. In truth, it was probably the sort of story that would have been wonderful as a dad improvising to his kids as a bedtime story, but when it's written down and published it just reads a bit forced. I'm allowed to be critical, I don't think one moderately critical review of this book is likely to ruin the author's career and I'm sure he has a backup career plan. Not terrible, certainly interesting to read, I wouldn't have done any better, but don't break your neck to get it.

A fun read that I shared with my Care Home book group. We all agreed that it gave us a new insight into the humour of Kind Charles.

Nice Story - great product for generational heirloom

It's not a length book to read but it has intrinsic value due to the author - Prince Charles soon to be King. And while I don't believe it is worth the hundreds of dollars some are offering it for sale if you can get if for a price around 20 to 30 $ it's worth it as an heirloom.

Der alte Mann von Lochnagar
Reviewed in Germany on 1 January 2014
"The Old Man of Lochnagar" wurde 1980 von Prinz Charles (His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales) geschrieben, d.h. nur kurze Zeit vor der Geburt seiner beiden Söhne.
He couldn't think of anywhere more special to be, than to be living at the foot of Lochnagar."

Perfect gift for sister

Neat book. Came in perfect condition and way earlier than expected. Was packaged incredibly well with no risk of damage.
Purchased for my sister (early Christmas shopping) who is a huge royal fan so this will be a nice addition to her collection of memorabilia.
