coleman 2C stove scoring of generator

Post by NW_Lady »

[sos]

Working on my coleman 2C stove. Noticed that the generator has some scoring from rubbing on the steel guide as it goes from hot blast position to run position. Any thoughts?

There is no leak now but....

Could I put a bit of solder there so that the rubbing is on the solder....and just replace the solder every 100 yrs ?

Maybe a collar of copper or very thin steel held in place by the clamp next to the worn spot?

Also.. Had to use a little Harvey's yellow pipe goo to stop a stubborn leak. What can I use to clean up the extra?

thanking all you kind and knowledgeable folk in advance! DSC_7691.jpg

Yes, find a piece of copper pipe slightly larger than your gen tube. You might use some thinner LP gas copper line not full blown water/plumbing pipe.

Cut it long enough to cover the area in question. Then, probably using a Dremel and cutting wheel, slit the pipe down the length of it and slip it over the gen. Put it in place and as you tighten the clamp it should compress the pipe holding it secure.

BTW, sometimes you can find copper line pretty cheap in kits for refrigerator ice makers. Not sure about all the diameter's they offer with those though.

I think our True Value Hardware store sells that copper line, cut to the length you need. I'd get at least a foot since other small projects can come up from time to time.

If you have a hobby store (airplane type) available, you might get a piece of brass tubing and make a curved patch from that. Craft stores have rolls of thin brass sheet that might also be used for patch material. I'd just go with a bit of solder to make a wear surface.

many thanks to all. Looks like a little copper or brass shield is the way to go to protect this old generator.
