Amazingly its English dialogues do not feel unnatural or forced at all. And the Hindi dubbing is great too.

I think one of the few movies in Bollywood that has a high re-watchable value

Too mich chaos but pretty good fun watch !!

One of the few good adult comedies. This and go goa gone

Surprisingly even in the ott era they've not been able to make something like this

Yeah😅 whoever wrote delhi belly should definitely write more

"Oh you are saying she's a prostitute, I thought she was sucking his dick because she's really outgoing"

In 2011 the movie created a lot of hype because of the level of abuses used in this film which was never seen before in Bollywood. Remember that this film came out one year before Gangs of Wasseypur. Now looking back this looks mild because we have dozen of movies and web series with more abusive language. Delhi Belly and Murder 2 released back-to-back with just one week gap, and The Dirty Picture also released in the same year. All A rated films and all three were big Hits. These movies proved that adult films can also be huge money spinners. It made Bollywood who was very family friendly at that time, to make more mainstream films for 18+ audience. I remember kids in my school used to act all cool just because they used to watch these A rated films.😂 Imraan got two Hits Delhi Belly and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan in the same year.

I don't think it's the abuses which made the film a cult hit. Nowadays, it seems they add abuses to the dialogue because they can and it feels very forced. But Delhi Belly was written so well, I have watched it in English and also the hindi dubbed, both holds up on their own

Ahead of its time. And very diffrnt music.. saigal blues.. bhag dk bose.. 😄

Bhag DK Bose is a banger of a song.

u/Efficient-Worry-6549 avatar

Every song was unique. Entire genre was another level. For me saigal blues stands out. Its one of its kind of indian pshychedelic rock..

So fun

Pioneer of black comedy in India

u/throwaway23uio avatar

Sir looooondry 😂😭

Wish this and Go Goa Gone would’ve spun off this genre!

Very good humour and story

Honestly I enjoy watching it

There was a joke by Kapil Sharma “gaaliyan ke beech mein aapne Jo story fit kiyi na , wah wah”

On a serious note I loved this film!

Ahead of its time

The fact that Aamir Khan being the people pleaser and image conscious celebrity he is, produced this movie makes this more entertaining.

Really enjoyed. The soundtrack is sooo fun too!

Phenomenal movie. Caught it in theatres in English, even now I go back to it occasionally. Always cracks me up.

u/Rude-Acanthaceae2236 avatar

I loved it!! Went to the theater and couldn’t stop myself from praising it, however some of the part were shocking to watch (hindi movies usually doesn’t have those kind of scenes). I enjoyed it overall.

That it’s a great movie…!!!

Ahead of time like ra.one

Ra.One's vfx and concept was ahead of time but story is shit.

nice

Dk Bose was legendary

Good situational comedy. Some of the acting feels a bit dated to me now.

u/mustangpurele avatar

I’m probably in the minority here but I don’t remember thinking it was amazinggg when it came out (I turned 19 that year for context)…maybe need to check it out again, or not my brand of humour…my type is more Andaz apna apna lol

one of the few non-80s or 90s TV films that felt natural in English.

The film is a proper irreverent black comedy if there was ever one. Yes, it was vulgar, but the vulgarity adds to the film instead of distracting like most OTT media from now do. That's what happens when things are implemented with a reason and a vision. No one was saying "Madarchod", "Gandu" at every chance they got, it was a part of the dialogue that fit like a puzzle into the story.

But something like this film came out at the perfect time. Too early, and people wouldn't have appreciated it, too late and someone or the other would have registered cases against the film and the censor board would simply refuse to certify it.

It's great we got films like this and Go Goa Gone at a time when they could have been made without inhibitions. Sadly not the case anymore

I think Delhi Belly is a landmark film and massively underrated.

Rarely have I seen an Indian film where people speak so naturally. The main characters, like most middle and upper class urban youth, speak “Hinglish”. The side characters either speak refined Hindi or a less refined variation, depending on their background or where they fit in their natural habitat. For example in one hilarious scene, the Vir Das character says - “You choot, your gaand is like a fucking black hole”! That’s exactly how most of us who grew up in Bombay or Delhi speak! 😂

For Aamir Khan to allow such dialogs and for the censor board to pass it, feels like India in 2011 was way more progressive!

And the comedic timing of every character is impeccable. Vijay Dubey and his sidekicks deserve a Netflix series of their own! The entire supporting cast stood on their own; I’m surprised we don’t see more of Kunal Roy Kapur. That man is genuinely funny and way more interesting than his more famous brother(s).

Sorry I could go on and on but Delhi Belly in my mind ranks among iconic comedies like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. A rare accomplishment but definitely not for everyone

Have you seen Black mail/ male by same director starring Irfan? Not as good but enjoyable.

Watching in a theatre was a riot. One of the funniest comedies from India especially considering Bollywood style of comedy is still stuck in the Golmaal/Welcome slapstick style of comedy.

Sir loondry

Yeh tho tatti hain

Edited

I am gonna get downvoted for this but,Found it Average.

It is tbh , the thing is this genre is not explored in Bollywood. That's why people rate it so high.

Enjoyed it while I was watching it. Not worth a re-watch.

Agreed. I recently watched it for the first time and while some scenes were good, overall it was okayish.

Here to fulfill your desire. Downvoted🫡

okay movie great soundtrack.😬😁

u/Joe-Vanringham avatar

I'm in the minority who struggled to find it funny.

I went in with sky-high expectations, especially after the song "Bhaag DK Bose" came out. Thought it was a superb melody and very funny lyrics.

Movie left me blah.

Dumb, over rated. People made such a big deal about this movie and it’s just dull and thinks it’s something special

Best hindi i have seen.. Revisits it every year...

An amazing piece of Indian Cinema

One of my faves

Underrated imho. Honestly, such a fun watch.

Good one. Loved it.

u/Ava1305 avatar

Should I watch the Hindi version or the English version?

Groundbreaking.

The movie had everything, amazing plot, tight editing, good funny fresh jokes, amazing album (I was worried those 8 songs would drag this, but they didn't play any song fully.) . To add to the list the cinematography was also fire. All rounder perfect 10

Aaj bhi iske gane repeat me sunta huun

Entertaining

I remember the movie for its quirky songs

I absolutely loved it 😍😍

One of nice comedies from bollywood, devi’s screen mom is the female lead in this one

Sir Loundry

I hate it. Like i love it.

I preferred Belagavi Tummy

MASTERPIECE!

The scene where the ceiling falls down was unexpected, shocking and hilarious all at once. I was lucky to see this in Hindi rather than English, and absolutely enjoyed all the dialogues. One of the most memorable ones was in the wedding scene where Vir Das screams out "Isne meri li hai; aur maine bhi usko di hai", and it is followed by an outrageously hilarious song, finally ending with the dog dry humping on Vir Das' leg!

Made "Shit Happens" a Genre....

Way ahead of his time would have been a blockbuster if released now

Sir londrii

Just recently watched it again, amazingly funny movie. Even now I relate more with as compared to 5 years back

u/No-Understanding4968 avatar

Loved it

It was good I mean really out there and kind new amd experimental for Indian cinema . One can say that we have not been able to follow up on such movies .

Its a damn good film , often clubbed with Go Goa Gone , which I feel is a solid film as well , but people talk about it as if its the funniest film to ever exist in Bollywood
