Kay Bedard

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother and Nanny after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. She went home to the Lord on January 24th at Selkirk General Hospital surrounded by her family. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband of 64 years Fernand (Ferdie) and her children; Louise (Barrie) Russell, Lucille(Roy) Erin, Wilfred (Debbie) Bedard, Elaine Bedard, Jim (Cathy) Bedard, Christine (Bryan) McDougall, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Mom was born January 27th, 1922 in East Selkirk Manitoba, spent her early years in Selkirk and then went to live in Winnipeg with her sister after her Mom’s passing. Mom met the love of her life and married on April 27, 1946. Together with Ferdie, she lovingly raised her six children at their home in Selkirk.

Mom’s hands were never still, homemaking, cooking, baking, knitting and making sure that all of her children and grandchildren were not without perogies, perishke and donuts. Mom’s busy hands were her trademark in her cake decorating and catering . Nobody made fancy sandwiches quite like Mom. There was always room for you at her table, and you never left without a care package, no matter who you were. Mom’s garden was her pride and joy, full of vegetables and flowers. All of her grandchildren spent many hours with her in her yard or her kitchen. Her faith and the Church was a very important part of Mom’s life. She was an active participant in the CWL, spending as many hours in the church kitchen as her own.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Verna and Joseph, and siblings Mary Balcaen, Mike, Pete, Alex and Jack Chiborak.

The family would like to thank CancerCare, Dr. Fuchs and Selkirk General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 28 at 11am in the Notre Dame Catholic Church, 269 Jemima Ave, Selkirk Manitoba. Private internment will take place at a later date.

We will all miss you Mom, and think of you and talk to you every day. You were not only our Mom and a wife to Dad, but our best friend and an inspiration to us all.
