I was about six years old when I first declared that I was going to be an actress. My mom thought it was a phase, but by the time I was 19 I hadn’t grown out of it and, during an acting workshop, met an agent interested in representing me.

In a short time, I would land the role that would change my life. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air was no average job. I loved going to work every day over the six years that the show ran, and the cast and crew became like family.
When the show ended, I went into more work acting, but also producing. The jobs were few and far between, but during those long breaks between jobs, I spent my time nurturing a new love: writing.

In 2005, I would start Sweet Blackberry, a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring little-known stories of Black achievement to children. I write and produce the films for Sweet Blackberry as well as write the books (published by Little, Brown). One of the most gratifying parts of Sweet Blackberry is getting the chance to visit schools across the country, screen the films for kids, hear their impressions, and answer their questions.
In 2019, my debut novel, How High the Moon, hit bookshelves. Not since being cast in the role of Hilary Banks have I been so thrilled. And it is certainly (after my children, of course!) my proudest achievement.

It’s taken me a while to finally buckle down and put together a website where everything I’m up to can be found in one place.

Thanks for stopping by.
