During a private comedy show he described as “intimate,” while in Lansing over the weekend, Tom Arnold spoke fondly on the short time he spent in Dearborn, nearly 30 years ago.
Arnold was married to Julie Champnella, of Southgate, in July of 1995 at a Jewish ceremony in Dearborn.
Chris Farley was his best man at the ceremony. That marriage lasted less than five years, but Arnold remembered Dearborn, and Michigan as a whole as a good place.
Also during the event, which was an invite-only after-hours event as part of the Capital City Comic Con, he told stories about trying to save the life of famous Kiss drummer Peter Criss, who turned out to be an imposter, being sued by the real Peter Criss, and many of his other celebrity friends.
Arnold was a guest at the convention for all three days, and even attended the cosplay (but completely real) wedding of Shamus Smith and Katie Whittaker Sunday afternoon.
Before the bride and groom said “I do,” Arnold spoke about his four marriages that have all ended in divorce, but also about the four times he’s served as an officiant for others.
On Saturday, Shamus Smith interviewed Arnold while wearing a Space Ghost costume as part of a panel for the convention.
The couple are both involved in many charity and cosplay events and run the League of Enchantment together.
