Herzog (Duke) Grimoald I von Bayren (Bavaria), born around 0645 CE, was the youngest of three sons of Duke Thassilon II (d. 0650) of Lombardy, with older brothers, Theodon IV and Theodebert I. Their mother was Reginotrude von Austrasien (Regintrude of Austrasia).[1]
He became Herzog von Bayern (ca. 0670 CE) when both of his older brothers died without male heirs. He allied with the Lombards against the Austrasian Franks to keep Bavaria independent. In general, his reign was peaceful and he was a professed Christian.
He was followed by his son, Herzog Theodo V in 695 CE and who reigned until his death in 708 CE.
