- Rach GoldSydney, Australia147 contributionsToo Twilight Tour with Jordan! The twilight tour was an awesome way to get a mix of local culture and see the nocturnal animals starting their day! Keeper Jordan and Volunteer Betty did an awesome job taking our small group around the park to see the Tassie devil, koalas, feed kangaroos, spot the croc and wallaby’s, with the night finished with a lovely lemon myrtle tea and a Dreamtime story of how the birds got their colours. Jordan was WONDERFUL with keeping our 2.5 year old engaged, happy to hold his hand and hi-5 and involve him in doing tasks to keep him engaged as there is a bit of walking. This meant by the time we made it to the Roos he was following instructions and listening well. Betty the volunteer shared amazing knowledge too. They beautifully incorporated local culture such as learning around a yarning circle and explaining why yarning circles are important in Indigenous culture.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 September 2023
- MilamberNZAuckland, New Zealand131 contributionsA koala experience like no otherCame across this on trip advisor and decided to check it out. We love the outdoors and also booked in to have afternoon tea with koalas. It was great to visit the wildlife hospital and hear from the keepers what is happening with the animals - they seemed to be very well looked after and happy. The koala tea was definitely a highlight as we got to cuddle a koala (or more so, the koala got to cuddle us)! Loved it, and everyone in the family loved it too.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 September 2023
- tekohiwiWhitianga, New Zealand507 contributionsEnjoyable afternoonThis park has been there for since 1945 and is very well maintained and presented. We have been before but many years ago. Good displays and plenty to see. The bird display in the arena was the highlight for us. We felt the entry fee was a bit expensive and might put off some people. Plus there was a fee of $10 to park. But overall it was a pleasant experience.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 September 2023
- Joanna D2 contributionsAMAZING loved feeding the lorakeetsAMAZING my favourite trip on my holiday so far. - tetibird745 contributionsAn Australian icon with good energyThe park is beautiful, the workers & volunteers all exude passion for their work (talks were great, they were really friendly in a personal way), & they certainly do good works (reminded constantly of their non-profit status & by conservation focused statements). Viewing the hospital from the outside was interesting. We were lucky to see the koalas all active, eating, climbing etc, The free flight bird display was fantastic & the highlight (saw it twice!) No exhibits were spectacular (although I might be a little jaded having gone to a lot of parks in the last few months) & I'm sure foreign visitors (& little kids) would have been thrilled with contact with Australian animals we encounter frequently in our back yards. One main gripe, mentioned in previous posts, is the terrible map which is unreadable. What's wrong with a simple clear black & white map? Added to lousy (or lack of) signage we became frequently frustrated going around in circles trying to find exhibits (missethd cassuary & dingos, & only saw the reptiles on the way out when we were too tired). As an older couple backtracking & going up & down slopes was exhausting. One thought, we were impressed at Hartley's Crocodile Adventures (Cairns) they allowed you to visit over a few days, which allowed you to do a morning & return another day for the afternoon activities. This might work well for families & seniors to best take in the displays & shows.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 November 2023
- Ximena R2 contributionsOne of the best experiencesThe sanctuary is a good place to go with your family or friends, my experience was amazing. They care the animals and protect them very well. You can live the experience if seeing the hospital, participate in different activities and learn a lot about environmental care.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 March 2024

Nice place with a pretty walk. Great to see koala so close and the salt water croc was huge! We went from 10am to around 1pm and saw about 4 lorikeets. Very disappointing. Really poor to have bird feeding at 8am and 4pm. Nothing like it used to be. Terrible completely useless map too.
Overall, not great value for money and don’t go if you expect to feed lots of birds (unless you go early or late).

This had to be one of the best days out on the Gold Coast (although we have had an amazing time at lots of places) - what a beautiful sanctuary with so much to do. We had such a wonderful day out. You can see how well cared for the wildlife are here. So many koalas and there are kangaroos to interact with (just need to buy a $4 bag of food from the kiosk located near by). Our 11 year old was desparte to hold a koala and having read some of the reviews online about the long wait time, we came prepared to wait. Tip: if you go to the 12.30 session, and are prepared to line up early, I would suggest start to line up at 12pm and then you only wait for 30 mins as they are pretty fast once the photo sessions open up after lunch. Holding the koala was actually worth the wait, so darn cute and really great photo keep sakes. Yes it is very pricey but we were comforted in the fact that the money goes back to the Sanctuary not some big corporate. You can also opt for Zip lining - it looked awesome - we didnt do it though because everyone was a bit tired from our adventures prior to this. Was neat seeing all the older volunteers around the place and I love the conservation story of this place. Well worth every $$ spent.

Such a rip off .. what a disappointing experience. Costs alot to get in $64 and $10 parking … but fair enough the center needs to take care of these gorgeous animals. Unfortunately, and not that anyone will tell you once you’ve paid entry, if you wanna hold the koala be prepared to stand in line for more than an hour in the sun only to find out that you have been standing in line to pay $49 more … and then after they rudely extort the $49 .. you will stand in line an additional 20 min. before getting anywhere near the koala. And if you think you’ll have more than 30 seconds holding the koala .. well you’ll be disappointed cause the handler rudely tells you she doesn’t have time to let your family also take a picture of you. One good thing, at least when you pay $49 to hold the koala .. there is actually an electric fan there to cool the cashier. And the kangaroos are amazing .. but you’ll need to pay $4 for a small bag of food 🤦♀️. Go to Lone Pine .. may be further but a much better
day.
day.

We visited this place for the first time when my brother and his wife came to see us from Japan. That was my sister-in-law's first time to Australia and we stayed at the Gold Coast for two nights and we took them there to take a koala photo and see the Australian animals.
I purchased the tickets through RACQ and printed out the tickets I received on their website. When we got there, I wasn't sure what I needed to do with the tickets, so I walked to the gate to ask the staff there. When we passed the ticket booth, one of the staff came out of the booth and yelled at me to line up. I was shocked and explained that I had the tickets purchased through RACQ and was going to ask the staff at the entrance gate. The staff yelled at me again 'You need to redeem the tickets at the booth where everyone is lining up. You need to line up!!' I got scared as she was emotional. Why couldn't she explain calmly as I just wasn't sure what to do with the tickets?
After we redeemed our tickets, we went to the koala photo place, there were no customers in front of us. I was informed at the ticket counter that we could take photos with our mobile phones as well. However, holding a koala was just for a few seconds while the staff took a photo. While I was trying to take a photo with my phone, a staff member (old lady) grabbed my arm and forced to move. She told me that I couldn't take a photo but I said I was informed by the staff that I could, but she said NO! We paid for approx $100 to hold a koala and take a photo but it ended after a few seconds and it was a complete rip off. Also, I was so uncomfortable that the female staff grabbed my arm physically and treated me like a stupid tourist.
We took them to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary when we returned to Brisbane to hold a koala and take a photo again as we wanted to make a better memory for them. They were able to take plenty of photos with their mobile phones and the staff let us even take a photo of them standing together with a koala! The staff at Lone Pine were so friendly.
In addition, we watched the bird show but it wasn't very educational compared to the one at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

We strolled around for about 2.5hrs and also went to the bird show which was awesome - would recommend. We weren’t sure if this would be worth it as we read mixed reviews, but there were lots of cool animals to see and it felt like pretty much all the enclosures were full. The staff were all really friendly, and for most of the enclosures etc you were shaded under trees so it wasn’t too hot.

Great experience at the Wildlife Sanctuary where we saw so many Koalas and Kangaroos. It is a nice open atmosphere where getting close to the animals are just a given. The guides were great and very knowledgeable. However the map was very confusing and we had difficulty understanding it and finding the exit. Other than that the whole experience was great.

Having done Australia Zoo a number of times and never been here, we came on this trip.
We had a great time. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There were plenty of animals to see.
The lady who gave the talk about the Tasmanian Devils was very passionate about them.
They are in the middle of a HUGE addition atm, which looks like it will at least double the park that was there.
I'd like to go back and see once it's all finished.

Hmm. Very ordinary. It used to be such a fab bird park but now it’s a bit of everything but nothing good. Do we need more kangaroos koalas etc?? Food was good, a little healthier than most such parks. But is it worth the entry fee?

How far is it to walk around the sanctuary
Toni H
Greater Sydney, Australia29 contributions
Depends how long you stay at each area. The sanctuary has a little train that goes around giving access to the main areas, you can get on and off as many times as you like.
I like to do a complete circuit on the train to get my bearings, then wander around.
Great place to visit, regardless of the weather.

I have bought general admission tickets online. The confirmation said to confirm 48 hours in advance to tour operator. I am not sure what this means. I thought general admissions mean that we can enter and walk around the park for the day. Does this mean tat we will be with a tour guide the whole day?

Same as above as far as the General Admission
You bought the ticket on lime which are cheaper so if
Unsure just give them a ring and I am positive that you will be given the correct answer
I hope you enjoy it as it is very relaxing day 😊
Can we encounter with animals with general entry ticket or need to pay extra?

The only time you need to pay extra is for photos with koalas or the little crocodiles. Apart from that everything else is free.

It will be quite a long trip on public transport. Train from Brisbane Central Station and changing to bus at Varsity Lakes will take about 2hrs 10 mins. There is a journey planner for public transport (search translink journey planner) that might help your planning and options.
Otherwise, maybe consider a shuttle / tour bus service.
Hope you have a great visit!

No reason you can't, but if you don't want to carry it around they do have a nice cafe. You can also leave it in the car and go and get it when you are ready and reenter the park since they stamp your wrist.
