Overall, I have had a pretty great experience at David Douglas High School. In general, most of the teachers are great and provide a comforting feeling around being at school. Though some students may not realise it, nearly every teacher is willing to provide aide wherever it is needed, whether that be retaking a test or following questions after class. In my opinion, the only things really wrong with this school would be the food provided and the safety of our campus. We are in a pretty sketchy area of Portland, and there is a lot of violence that goes on in the general vicinity of the campus which makes it scary somedays to attend class. I would like to see a change in these safety precautions at some point. Whether it be hiring more security guards or just locking the doors to secure the building, any advancements would be appreciated by not only the students but our families.
I wouldnt say the school is the worst, nor would I say its the best. I had a lot of teachers treat me like I was below them and tell me id never graduate. I had other teachers who wrote letters of recommendation and gave me extensions on assignments so I could finish college applications. the good comes with the bad.
Attending school in the David Douglas School District has been a really fantastic experience. The most special part of my high school experience in particular has been music. Being involved in the band program throughout high school has made every hardship more than worth it. I'm very fortunate to be able to say the worst parts of my high school experience were due to my own poor choices (getting behind on schoolwork and becoming overwhelmed.) The support that the district offers I think is really amazing, and although I didn't really take advantage of these resources while at school, I have seen these resources help so many people. Another thing I love about David Douglas is the staff. Every educator and staff-member I have interacted within the district has been warm and welcoming. I will forever be proud to have grown up within the David Douglas School District!
The food is never good but we’re getting a new building for our CTE classes yet our bathrooms or still not fixed in many buildings. We are a very diverse school but not well represented in staff or administrators. We offer many clubs and leadership rules and classes. We also have many high placement classes but the teachers for college math are great.
Overall, my experience as a senior at David Douglas High School is great! I love the music program, and I'm involved in band and theater. I love my teachers, and some I've had since my freshman year, which is amazing. I've made some great friends through both programs, and I'm loving the experience. David Douglas High School has so many wonderful elective classes and clubs that any and every student has the opportunity to be part of, and that can be many. I'm in book club, band, theater, leadership, Asian Student Union, and weights, and I'm very grateful for the many opportunities we have here at DDHS.
I would like to see the student body get more connected, not just because of the Link Crew leadership students, but because they actually want to get connected.

David Douglas District is known for being a very diverse environment, which is completely true. The fact that the district actually highlights and respects all this diversity and culture through public events, recognition posts around school and on social media shows that it’s one of the best options to send your children to any of the schools that are included in the district. I’ve experienced middle school and high school in the district and it was an amazing journey that has become part of my favorite memories collection.
The friends I made in elementary stuck with me throughout middle school and high school. The friends you make is a special kind of bond as you grew up with them, seeing them success with you.
It's a good school if you invest your time in studying. The teachers are supportive and there are many resources to lead to success. The school may not be as wealthy as other schools but we had many alumni who got into Ivy League Schools. Overall, many there are many things could be improve such as foods, infrastructures, and students behaviors (aka vaping in bathroom & fighting).
My experience at David Douglas has been really good so far. Our class council works really hard, and thinks of activities that will benefit our school and especially our students.
David Douglas High School is great. It has a lot of activities and is very diverse. They have an amazing music program and has lots of electives. The electives can go from computer stuff to music and all types of art. We placed second in state for the orchestra group, but the choir was first. The school is big and you can make a lot of friends.
I like the classes that DDHS offers. There are a lot of CTE programs, and it allows me to explore various STEM careers.
DDSD has a fantastic music program starting in elementary school going all the way to high school. The teachers are dedicated and helpful, encouraging excellence at all levels and being considerate about special needs. Scots Athletics has been offering many sports activities for students to flex their skills. One thing that DDSD could improve, it is to offer more World Languages like German and Japanese for Foreign Language requirement, and to start the foreign language studies at the Elementary level to attain proficiency. Another scope for improvement is to offer more AP courses to set the students up for college success.
great place to nurture young artists and scholars. A great variety of classes to help students develop different skills
Good district, hopefully will get more funding and college/ap courses available to students. There needs to be more anti-bullying and discipline against sexual harassment.
The teachers of the science department in DDHS were really supportive and spent lots of encouraging me in chemistry and biology to become a more disciplined student.
I like how diversify the school is and there are many amazing staff members there to help you. I would like to see more students getting involved and uniting to make it a better school.
David Douglas is a very diverse school with a very diverse community. Although the location of the school may not be in the safest environment, the faculty and staff try their best to give students the safest experience while in school.
