Bishop Watterson High School Reviews
Rating 3.9 out of 5 141 reviews
The academic side of Watterson is very challenging. We have many papers and presentations in our English classes. We also have exams that are 20% of our overall grade for the year. Along with this, everyday we have to wear uniforms. The uniforms are very helpful for not having to pick out clothes to wear every single morning. Everyone has the same outfit and no one also gets jealous or put down by what others have to wear. Some negatives are having more rules to follow. We are not allowed to have our phones out. There is a twenty dollar fine if you have your phone out. Along with this, we cannot chew gum, or it is a ten dollar fine. Also we cannot carry our backpack around. We have to only carry the books we need for that class period. Which can be very inconvenient if you just want to carry all your books in your backpack to have with you at all times. We also have to eat lunch in twenty minutes in our cafeteria. We are not allowed to eat at other places for lunch near campus.
I think it is a great school for those looking to go into science or math career's and have classes to challenge yourself available. Watterson is very sport oriented when it comes to extra curriculars. There is a bit of a click culture though, so if that is something that does not interest you it will be a bit more difficult socially. I hope that there can be more opportunities for the art department to get more involved to help students that want to continue in that area. It would also be a good change if the clubs met up more, as from what I can see they meet up every few months at most it seems.
I’m both an alum and a parent and I felt the need to make a review because I saw a previous post about there not being much of a music program. That is absolutely not the case. The music teachers are all top notch and the band programs are amazing and award winning. In fact, the marching band was actually one of the key differentiators that helped my child make the decision to go to Watterson over another Catholic Prep school in the area. So, if a strong music and band program that pushes students for excellence is important to you, Watterson is the right choice.
