5,0 de 5 estrellas Good Stuff: esp. from the 1950s
Revisado en los Estados Unidos el 24 de octubre de 2012
I have always loved the song "Namely You" & I was lucky enough to find THIS song on this Don Cherry compilation. Songs 1 to 10 are good stuff from the 50s. "Band of Gold", "Wild Cherry", "I'm Still a King to You", "Ghost Town", "I'll Be Around", "Namely You" AND "Fourteen Karat Gold", my parents had all those songs on 45s & I used to love to play them when I got older. I was hoping that this CD included "There's a Place Called Heaven" & "If I Had My Druthers", also from HOME, but I just discoveredthat they are included on "Swingin' For Two" featuring Ray Conniff.Have to get that next time around from Amazon.com! This version of "I'll Be Around" definitely is a 50s remake of the old Mills Brothers song from 1943. Though, this version is good, I'm still very much partial to the Mills Brothers version because it seems SO sentimental to me. Alot of the other songs 11 to 20 I have heard by other singers besides Don Cherry. The song "I Love You Drops" is quite a cute number. "Just a Drop of Rain" is quite pretty & "Good Old Days Are Right Now" is a cheerful song to listen to. This compilation is recommended esp. for those who lived & loved the 1950s on songs 1 to 10. NOTE: Since Halloween is next Wednesday, the song "Ghost Town" seems kind of fitting, even though the REAL meaning of "Ghost Town" is about loneliness.

I purchased this CD primarily to get "Ghost Town", a song I particularly liked when it came out. Sometimes you have to buy an album get a single.

Of course, I also liked "Band of Gold", Don's biggest hit, but I already had a copy.

These two songs sounded very good and original. I wasn't particularly interested in the other songs although I do like Don Cherry's voice.

FYI: I'm a record collector of 55 years and a sometimes deejay.

A collection of lesser known of Don's songs, but also including some of the best known as well, ie, Band of Gold, Wild Cherry, There Goes My Everything, and Between Winston-Salem and Nashville Tennessee. Don, the singing golfer, remains his outstanding self. An excellent addition to any collection.

What a pleasure to obtain music that was popular in my "green" years. I would also like to obtain--if you have it--a duet cd with Willie Nelson and Don Cherry.

DON ALWAYS HAD A GREAT VOICE AND HIS ARRANGEMENTS WERE HIS OWN STYLE------YOU ALWAYS KNEW A DON CHERRY SONG BEFORE HE STARTED TO SING----TO THE MAN WHO SAID THIS IS NOT THE DON CHERRY,JAZZ MUSICIAN,WAS RIGHT AND THE JAZZ MUSICIAN IS NOT THE SINGER THAT DON WAS.
THIS ALBUM HAS ALOT OF MEMORIES AND I LOVE IT.
