Rascal Flatts star Joe Don Rooney’s divorce from wife Tiffany Fallon Rooney has been finalized, after more than two years of contentious court battles that alleged infidelity, alcoholism and more.

The country musician, 48, and Fallon, 49, had their split settled in a Nashville court in late September, nearly three years after he first filed for divorce in January 2021, according to the final divorce decree obtained by PEOPLE.

The lengthy filing details the many factors that led to the deterioration of the couple’s 17-year marriage, including extramarital affairs by both parties, Rooney’s struggles with alcoholism and the end of Rascal Flatts.

“The Court finds that each of the parties bears a share of the responsibility for the demise of this marriage,” the documents state. “Neither party is perfect, and their individual shortcomings are all human failures with which many of us will be confronted at some point in our lives. The Court will not condemn them further for giving into their human frailties when lonely, emotionally lost or in despair.”

Fallon was named the designated primary residential parent for the couple’s son Jagger, 17, and daughters Raquel, 13, and Devon, 9, while Rooney was named the alternate residential parent; they will each get 182.5 days of parenting time per year, and are barred from talking about the divorce or making “derogatory comments” about one another to the children.

The documents also indicate that Fallon’s request for spousal support was denied, though she will receive $791 per week in child support.

As seen in previous filings, the couple’s marriage was plagued by cheating, substance abuse and money struggles, with the latest documents indicating that they “enjoyed an extravagant lifestyle” that quickly got out of hand as Rooney’s income dried up following Rascal Flatts’ 2020 breakup.

In one instance cited in the decree of divorce, Fallon allegedly told Rooney, “F--- you, Joe Don. I don’t need a f---ing dad” after he confronted her about spending too much money on a purse, and she also allegedly struck him on the side of the head with a water bottle after he told her they might not be accepted as members of a local country club due to her “past modeling career.” (She previously worked for Playboy.)

After meeting backstage at an awards show in 2003, the couple tied the knot in April 2006 — but in January 2021, Rooney claims he received an email from Fallon telling him she intended to pursue a divorce. He eventually filed first days later, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

Months later, Rooney was involved in a car accident and was arrested for driving under the influence. He was then admitted to Cirque Lodge Rehabilitation Center, a $314,629 per month facility in Utah.

There, according to the divorce decree filing, Rooney admitted to “engaging in intimate sexual contact” with a female patient three different times (Rooney also allegedly admitted to having a different, one-month-long affair in August 2021 with another woman). He was discharged in January 2022, and has been sober ever since, maintaining his sobriety through outpatient therapy and AA meetings.

“The fact remains that his abuse of alcohol damaged his marriage and his relationship with the Wife and children,” the documents state. “The Husband now acknowledges the unfortunate role the abuse of alcohol played in his life and credits his accident with ultimately saving him by helping him escape the clutches of alcohol abuse.”

Fallon, meanwhile, admitted in her deposition and pleadings that she began an affair with her personal trainer in August 2020.

Both parties were granted a divorce on the grounds of inappropriate marital conduct.
