Ein Zug nach Manhattan plot

In 1952, Leon Sternberger, a devout Jewish leader, lives in a New York suburb. But one morning, after being confronted for the umpteenth time with all the wars and misery in the world, Leon loses his faith in God and refuses to celebrate the Jewish New Year. His niece Esther asks for help from Manhattan-based rabbi Markus, but when Leon gets on the subway to travel to him, he gets completely lost and meets several people for whom he can help.
