Texarkana is a city that straddles many lines and boundaries, not just the state lines. It's an interesting place with lots to be seen and discovered, but there could be more. The housing market is very competitive and, admittedly, untenable for some people. Job opportunities are advertised as numerous and always growing, yet for some there's never a blip or a buzz on their phone. I've not experienced the schools yet, but the parks are grand. Overall, it's been a learning experience to say the least.
Texarkana is still considered a small town; however, it is experiencing huge growth. The major interstate that runs through the city, has been under construction for expansion. One of the local hospitals is currently building a much larger, state of the art facility that looks to open in late 2025. The other local hospital is also building an expansion to provide additional services. Even with all of the growth and additional job opportunity, the homeless population is quite high with very limited resources to help. The crime rate is also very high, making many areas unsafe. I currently work in the trauma department of one of the local hospitals, and every week we see patients for gunshot wounds, assault, and drug related accidents. There is a growing drug problem throughout this town that is leading to many of the above problems described above. And as for healthy lifestyles, choices a very limited for eating healthy. Most all restaurants are chains with limited to no healthy options.
Texarkana, TX is a good town with great people! The education system is great, and the cost of living is doable.
Honestly, Texarkana is such a dump, no one likes to move here. and there is just about zero things to do here.
I like that it has a small-town feel, but it is not that small. I don't like that our downtown area is depleting. There's not much to do in Texarkana, so it can get very boring. I wish that our down town area would come back to life. I also wish that the Arkansas side was safer. I like the schools here.
There are several reasons I like the small town of Texarkana. I like that there are more friendly people in this town than there are mean spirited people. I like the fact that Texarkana has Texas A&M University! I love to see the many cultures representing Texas A&M University. The college has really affected Texarkana as in growth.
In this community the community college really prepares you for the Texas A&M. Texarkana college there was so much love and hope while attending the community college. The professors really were kind and wanted to see the students graduate and become better working adults in society. On the other hand; there are events in Texarkana I want to see change. The crime rate in Texarkana has skyrocketed to the roof. This really saddens me because Texarkana was a safe place to live. It breaks my heart to see crime on the rise. It also saddens me that teenagers and children do not take advantage of this great education.

Texarkana is the hub city of the area. It has:
- two hospitals
- a number of chain restaurants (interstate)
- Larger Community college
- Smaller four year university
- some downtown nightlife
- Army Depot west of town (major source of employment for area)
- lake southwest of town
- small airport with daily flights to Dallas (Arkansas side)
Crime in certain areas can be bad. It is deep in the Bible belt so church is a big aspect of life here. Most people here have lived here or in the area most of their lives so it can be difficult to make friends if you aren't already part of certain circles.
Nothing about the area is extraordinary, depending on what you are looking for and comparing it to. Texarkana for example is considerably nicer than Shreveport Louisiana which is an hour south. It is also nicer than many towns in Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
If you need or want to live in the Ark-La-Tex area, it is one of the best populated places to live.

I have lived her all my life. I would like to see more places for students to study and things to do besides shopping and bars.
I would explain Texarkana by hanging with people Texarkana has some stuff to do most of the town is really safe I felt save
I grew up in Atlanta, Texas and thought moving to Texarkana would be less boring. But it's not. People gossip here a lot and there are a lot of cliques, even at the churches, which shouldn't be. Some people are educated here buy still small minded. No dreams just want drama and something to gripe about on my job. Overall it's very depressing place to live . There's little entertainment here. Run down mall and the park! Lol. I would love to move back to Dallas!
Texarkana, also known as Twin City, lies between the NE corner of Texas (Texarkana, TX) and the SW corner of Arkansas (Texarkana, AR). While Texarkana is a relaxed town, increased construction and developments have brought more businesses to the area, which increases the availability of opportunities and employment within the city.
For parents, there are a handful of independent school districts (ISD) to choose from. In Texas, you have Liberty-Eylau ISD, Texarkana ISD, and Pleasant Grove ISD. In Arkansas, you have Texarkana Arkansas School District.
For people interested in pursuing post-secondary education, the city has Texarkana College (2-Year) and Texas A&M University (4-Year).
There are many neighborhoods and communities to choose from. There is a mall in central Texarkana, as well as plenty other places to shop. There are also many restaurants, including Texas Roadhouse, Chipotle, and Chick-fil-A to name a few. Texarkana is growing everyday and welcomes new residents openly!

I've lived here for 12 years. This area is expanding every day into a slightly better town in my opinion. There is much to do but more places are popping up all the time. I think it really could turn into a great entertainment district. Texarkana ISD offers amazing programs including sign language and very advanced courses in math and science. The crime in this area is sort of high in some parts of town, mostly drug related, but I still leave my car unlocked most places. It's overall got it's ups and downs but the there are so many things I'm grateful for here and I see improvements coming slowly.
Cultural diversity is one thing I would encourage here. Texarkana is far behind the times as far as this region of the country. We have the ability and the people to extinguish the more totalitarian way of life. Here we have a centralized land and an easy path to becoming a tourist giant. It will bring with it major attractions for family and young adults to prosper. Weaning the draining enigma of low income and welfare fueled citizens, plagued by deteriorating health and unused minds. We have a well disciplined culture that has drive and capabilities that surpasses the old entertainment developmental strategies. Our city has a ring of freedoms and liberties coming into the culture of our homes and businesses. Texarkana is coming into trying times that are really starting to look like the next best thing in the south and it's high time we persevere those callings.
Texarkana is a great cozy city. Everyone knows everyone, it’s small, and there are so many local businesses to explore. Each of those aspects are to be absolutely adored, however, Texarkana lacks in more important aspects. As comfortable as this place looks, the crime rate is terrifying. Though the charges aren’t dangerous to society as a whole, it still is horrendously depressing to see the toll drug usage has had on the town. A gloom dwells over everyone and we’ve all agreed to ignore it. It’s empty here. Most residents are able to complain about the lack of activities. Every time someone wants to get their mind off of the gloom, they have to travel a few hours to one of the bigger cities nearby. However, no matter how empty this town may seem, it’s still beautiful. The community is strong and the history is alive. The sad shadows are beautiful in their own way, and Texarkana holds its uniqueness dear to its heart.
just moved to the area, it is very nice, the people are friendly, its safe and clean. In certain areas like most cities, there are areas that are not so clean with homeless and solicitation. wish the downtown area was more lively, has great bones for a really popular tourist attraction. I've been told the schools are okay, homeschooling my kiddos. Not too many activities for small children.
Nothing to do and not close to anything to do. It is just a bunch of overpriced homes with mediocre-minded people living out a suburb life of house payment and yard mowing. No dreams, no goals, no adventure, nothing. You could build an amazing theme park here and nobody would leave their house to visit it. Everyone is a fuddy duddy.
No activities at all.
No job opportunities at all.
Racism is rampant.
They do have an over abundance of banks, and churches. (Baptist and pentecostal mostly)
Worse place I've ever lived,By far.
You'd be better off going anywhere else.
