CUNY Hunter College Reviews

Graduate school is way more intense and requires a level of discipline, passion, and dedication. Life gets complicated as we age and it is okay to fall a bit short in achieving the expectations we have for ourselves; However it’s important to be resilient and withstand the hardship because it will mold you into a better person. Graduate school will challenge you intellectually and personally. Don’t give up!
Hunter College's IPND program in Nutrition has its good and bad parts. I appreciate their effort to create a sense of community within the cohorts and trying to help students establish life-long professional relationships. I also appreciate them offering students the option to complete the 2 year Master's degree in 3 years to accommodate for those that need to work while studying or have other responsibilities which won't allow them to complete the program full time. They are responsible for placing you in the dietetic rotations which takes the stress out of you as a student to find them on your own. However, I believe this internship system is flawed, since clinical placements don't seem to be just and place some at an advantage compared to others. Another bad part of this program is some professors, even if students have been complaining for several years about certain professors, there seem to be no consequences or changes, which significantly lowers quality of education.
It's been an incredible academic journey in my graduate program so far. The Integrated Program of Nutrition and Dietetics at Hunter College has truly set us up for success, both in the classroom and in the field. Unlike many other schools, Hunter places us directly into our dietetic internships, which is very valuable. The program is impressively organized, with supportive professors who make learning both informative and enjoyable. The food science lab provides hands-on experience in an amazing kitchen setting. The only downside is the location in Harlem at the Silberman School of Social Work, which is a distance from the main campus on 68th street. Despite the long classes, full-time schedule and location, the overall experience has been nothing short of amazing.
