All You Need to Know About the Hong Kong Classic Car Show and Vintage Festival

Lots of things in Hong Kong are old, but very few can be called vintage – and even fewer are in perfectly restored or preserved condition. But this autumn, the public is invited to come and feast its eyes (and stomachs and eardrums) on some of Hong Kong’s best classic cars, motorcycles, and auto-mobilia.

Do:

The bikes and cars will be the stars, and petrol-heads are sure to be there in droves to drool and admire all the models: from antique motors of the early 20th century, to sports, luxury and muscle cars of the 60s, 70s and 80s, to modern classics of the 90s and today. And because Hong Kong’s car collectors and enthusiasts are an eclectic bunch, the models are sure to be as varied as their owners. This means you can count on American, European, Japanese and even local Hong Kong makes and models including beautiful restorations, modifieds, and even a few racing pedigrees. The Classic Car Show is truly a rare chance to get outside and enjoy the fantastic autumn weather, sample some world class food and drinks, and admire these rolling works of art crafted from steel, rubber, and leather: don’t miss it.

Even if you are not an auto enthusiast, Hong Kong’s biggest classic car show of the year has plenty of other fun activities for kids and grown-ups alike. This year guests are encouraged to embrace Hong Kong’s Roaring Twenties and to dress to impress while getting into the spirit of the vintage event. Gifts and prizes will be awarded for best-dressed attendees. Plus, the ladies have the chance for a 1920s themed make-up makeover and kids will have a play area, RC cars, and arts and crafts activities to make sure everyone has fun.

If rockabilly music and 1950s retro swing and sock-hop dancing is your thing, then the Hong Kong Classic Car Show has you covered too, because there will be throwback acts and dancing going on all weekend long.

Time:

The festivities kick off on Friday evening with an exclusive VIP dinner (tickets are available) on November 14th. Then the event opens to the general public for the entire weekend of November 15th and16th from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on both days.

If you can only make it for one day, be sure to be there on Saturday. The crowds will be the biggest, but so will the number of vehicles and sponsors on display. Just remember that this is an outdoor event, so bring a hat and sunglasses if it’s sunny and expect that there could be a cancellation if it’s raining.

Place:

The 2014 Hong Kong Classic Car Show and Vintage Festival will be at the Hong Kong Central Harbour front located at #9 Lung Wo Rd. in Central.

Nosh:

Foodies are in for a treat since snacks, cocktails, beer and wine, along with individual and family picnic boxes will be available for sale from many of the finest purveyors in Hong Kong. Food and beverages will be provided by The Butchers Club, The Fatty Crab, SOTE and more.
