Dave Aftandilian Deserts often feel like uncanny, almost alien places to me, which suffer human presence only grudgingly. The shimmering heat and oppressive silence build to nearly intolerable levels, pounding against your body relentlessly. And then there are the sudden, unexpected moments of ominous calm: a single sun ray slicing menacingly through the sky, or several grains of sand trickling heavily down the face of an overhanging dune. DM’s ambience beautifully captures these darker aspects of desert being.
