I was hesitant to embark on this three night trip to Mohonk Mountain House arranged by my girlfriend. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Let’s start with the food. All reservations include three meals per day. There are several options for each meal. It’s too much food, but it is delicious.

For breakfast, you can dine in the Main dining room and have your choice of many delectable options. I had a lobster omelette, eggs Benedict, and a vegetarian omelette. All three were outstanding. They also were able to prepare my Bulletproof coffee, which is part of my keto diet. You can also eat in the Lake Lounge where there is a complete buffet including scrambled eggs.

Having had a complete breakfast each day, lunch was unnecessary, but it was included. Again you can eat in the Main dining room where there are a variety of tasty options from which to choose. Lunch includes a starter, an entrée and dessert. I particularly enjoyed the gazpacho and lobster salad. Everything I ordered was great. The desserts especially are wonderful at Mohonk Mountain House.

Or you can go to the Granary, which is an outdoor buffet-style area with picnic tables. There you can order hotdogs, hamburgers, mushroom burgers, vegetarian burgers or a pulled meat barbecue sandwich. There are a variety of salads and fruit options. For dessert you have your choice of cakes, cookies, brownies or ice cream. I could have eaten there every day.

We had dinner at three different venues. The main dining room is almost gourmet standard fare. The starters, entrées and desserts were all excellent. Another night we ate at the Pavilion, which was the potential bad weather option for the Granary. Again, it’s buffet style with your choice of different cookout options. There were also crabcakes, mussels, salmon, cold salads, vegetables, and a carving station. Desserts are similar to the lunch options of cakes, pies and ice cream. My only complaint was that we went on the late side and some of the food in the chafing dishes was cold and we were rushed to leave. If you go to the Granary for dinner, go early. Our final dining destination was the West dining room, which is a much smaller room than the Main dining room and, I believe, serves a slightly different menu. Nevertheless, my girlfriend’s pasta and my steak were excellent as were the desserts.

Dining at Mohonk Mountain House is a treat. Be prepared to put on some pounds.

There are plenty of things to do at Mohonk Mountain House. There is a relatively new spa with indoor pool, swimming and boating at the Lake, which is directly next to the hotel. There are tennis courts, a basketball court, volley ball, discus golf, and a playground. At the bottom of the mountain, Mohonk has a nine hole golf course. It is short, but very challenging with narrow fairways, blind shots, major elevation changes and some severely sloped greens.

Our room was spacious enough with a balcony and rocking chairs overlooking the rear side putting green and a view of the lake.

Tipping is included in your room rate and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I will compare it to the training received by Ritz Carlton employees.

Despite the relatively expensive accommodations, There were plenty of families with children there. They claim they have been sold out since January 1., which is a great thing since it means they can retain their employees throughout the year.

I give Mohonk House a big thumbs up.

The hotel is from a bygone era in many ways, and thank god. A true respite from the fast pace of a stress filled world. I particularly appreciated that there were no TVs in the rooms which would have destroyed the turn of the century ambiance. There are no TVs scattered throughout the hotel either, so no constant noise, news, sports or other distractions. People sit in front of wood burning fireplaces ... sipping coffee or wine, and READ BOOKS! As you glance out the windows, you'll see people hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing. Everything is included in the price - there are not additional fees for ski rentals, ice skates, etc. Also included, 3 meals a day with a very original and delicious dinner menu with locally produced foods, and very good wine list. I also liked that there is a no tipping policy. An administrative fee included in the price pays the employees salaries. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful (probably because they are getting paid good wages?) and overall there is a surprising number of employees working at the hotel to help in every way. Even the parking valet volunteered to clean off our car which had been sitting in the show for a few days. There is a beautiful large indoor pool which is surrounded by windows, without any stuffiness or chlorine smell. We were there in the winter so the view as you swam was of snow covered trees and mountains. This hotel is clearly not for everyone. It's like being placed in a beautiful turn of the century painting for a day or two. Feeling what it was like to live in those times. Although it is expensive, it doesn't reek of luxury or gaudy opulence. (I imagine there are huge overhead costs to keep it all running, thus the high price). But if you can stay once or twice, it's definitely a unique and memorable experience in this post modern day and age.

This unique, historic property has been owned and run by the same family for over 150 years. The buildings are old, but you'd never know it from their superb condition. No musty odor or chipped paint here; it is as fresh as if built yesterday. Wide halls lined with historic photographs, magnificent mountain top location, miles of groomed hiking trails, lots of activities (boating, fishing, tennis, archery, lectures, tomahawk throwing, indoor pool, spa, and relaxing on the broad porches) all make for a vacation that feels quite different while being so close to NYC. It's not cheap, but most everything is included. The COVID precautions were excellent and mask compliance was essentially 100%. The staff were gracious and friendly and obviously proud of the property. A few minor complaints: the service at dinner could be slow (but who's in a rush there?) although the food was excellent. The wine options are very nice, but the mixed drinks were weak and expensive - stick to the wine! We were blessed with perfect weather and reduced COVID-capacity, so nothing felt crowded. We never had to wait for a boat and never got closed out of an activity. I fear it wouldn't feel so exclusive during a school vacation at full occupancy, but we'll certainly go again.

We stayed two nights in the two story Mountain View Suite at Mohonk Mountain House, along with 3 young adults in Lakeside Tower rooms. We were impressed with the guidelines due to the Pandemic - nobody allowed on property if they have visited States NY has banned, masks on, social distancing, hand sanitizers, etc. The rooms show 151 years of use, but were clean. It was crowded, with many languages and accents overheard. The views from all rooms were amazing, and the socially distant music on the dock Saturday night was a delight.

Sadly, service could use some improvements. Meal service was erratic - sometimes food was presented too quickly, other times it took forever to get drinks, dessert or coffee. Our Suite was not cleaned until our request late Sunday, despite a door tag request and us being gone for a few hours. Despite noting our Anniversary celebration in our reservation, notifying dining staff multiple times, and ordering celebratory champagne before dinner (which didn't arrive until after our appetizers), the wait staff didn't do anything (like a celebratory dessert plate) to acknowledge our anniversary. He apologized as we left dinner that he forgot. For $3,000 a night, in what I think is the most expensive room in the hotel, I would expect a higher level of attention and service. The dining room was also a mix of families with young crying kids, and adults/families with older kids trying to have a nice evening out. I would suggest that young children are seated on one side of the large restaurant, and adults on the other so each can enjoy their meals without disturbing others or being concerned about disturbing others.

A stay at Mohonk is not cheap, let’s get that out of the way, but coming as a family and taking advantage of most of the services and activities, we found it was a good value.

Staff: informed, helpful, accommodating. I recall these names, but there were so many who made our trip special: Katie, Uriah, Edyta.

Food: served three times daily (only lunch and dinner require reservations, and we suggest you get the earliest or latest reservations to avoid crowds). We found the food to be consistently good, often times inventive. Alcohol is extra.

Rooms/Resort: I think this is where a lot of people have issues. The overall vibe is 1890’s B and B /national park hotel/wilderness lodge—it is not for the entitled set. The rooms could use an update; updating the lighting fixtures is one immediate suggestion. Our bathroom still had pencil marked above the vanity from when they last updated the bathroom. Though so much is included, guests will invariably look at the room to assess whether they got the value they paid for. Complimentary slippers would be a nice touch. We appreciated the twice daily room refresh, with water and chocolates. The hotel itself was always neat and attended to by staff.
The indoor pool was our favorite place in the house; high ceilings, wonderful views, comfortable chairs, and typically empty at 8:30am (adult swim is 10-11am). We also enjoyed the skating rink, though we think resort guests should not be charged for hot chocolate, even if that means doling it out in smaller cups. The kids club gave us just enough time to grab some relaxing moments while the kids made new friends. The magic show events included as part of the weekend were entertaining and a nice addition to the activities; the finale on Sunday night was a great close to the weekend.

Tips: technically are included, but were still accepted and appreciated by the staff whenever we offered them for excellent service. Still unsure whether we missed something by not compensating more staff...

We will absolutely return again, likely in the spring/summer when even more seasonal activities and eateries are available.

We’ve been visiting Mohonk since 1982. The grounds are stunning and the house itself is lovely but there are some areas that could use some refreshing. Our room was clean and a comfortable size for two people but the mattress probably should have been replaced a couple of years ago. They provided a board which helped. But when you’re paying the prices they charge, you do expect everything to be perfect. Cruising Europe is less expensive. We took advantage of a 40% room discount they offered which made the expense of staying a bit less stinging. They’ve eliminated tipping by including a 15% “administrative fee” for each day of your stay. The dining experience was limited, which we attributed to COVID, and hope that the incredible fine dining experience we enjoyed during past visits, returns at some point. The pool and spa are delightful although my massage was more expensive than what I pay locally but comparable to what I paid onboard the European cruise we took. Since we needed to get away after 6 months in lock down, Mohonk provided a very good option. The staff was excellent and two issues we had with charges to our bill were handled quickly and to our satisfaction. They were extremely careful following all CDC protocols and we felt safe. That said, they are pricing themselves out of our vacation budget which does make me sad because it is a special place. We may have to be happy with an occasional day visit.

I wanted to plan a short trip for some hiking and outdoor time after the long winter and this was a perfect resort choice. The hotel offers several packages and weekend wellness events, but I choose a mid-week hotel plan. I did this for two reasons. One because there were additional discounts on the room rate. Two because this was my first hotel stay since the pandemic and I thought a mid-week stay would have slightly less guests as compared to a weekend. I chose wisely. There were less guests which made me feel comfortable being away from home and plenty of outdoor activities organized by the hotel.

The hotel was well prepared for guests and I did not feel uncomfortable at any time. The staff all wore masks. There were hand washing and sanitizing stations all over the resort house. Housekeeping was available upon request. The room was only cleaned if you put out the door sign indicating service was required. Valet service is currently unavailable but this was actually not a problem. Guests could unload and load baggage at the bell stand and then self park. The hotel also offered a shuttle service to take you to your car if you were parked in one of the more distant lots. In my opinion, the hotel handled the pandemic changes well without making the guest feel like they were missing out on service.

I loved the resort house. It has a retro feel with plenty of wood furnishings and cozy reading nooks which I thought were charming. I felt like I was visiting an old friend and staying at her mountain home for a few days. There were plenty of balconies for viewing the mountains. I especially loved the porch rocking chairs! The room was furnished in a way which made me feel like a house guest instead of a hotel guest. I did think it odd that there was no TV in the room. The hotel does have wifi so I just streamed the news. I can see this as a possible problem for someone with kids but honestly I was not inconvenienced by the lack of TV.

The main reason for my hotel choice was the many hiking trails available at the resort. I am not an experienced hiker but had no trouble navigating the trails, paths and roads for hiking. I mainly hiked on the easy/moderate trails which were gravel paths with some inclines. The resort has what they call rock scrambles which are designed for more experienced individuals and require you to use hands and feet to climb the path. I did not choose any of these trails but they did look like they would be fun for someone who was more active. Maybe I'll try these next time?!?!

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the resort and would highly recommend it for families or anyone who needs an outdoor getaway.

Beautiful and clean. They modernized in certain areas like our bathroom was completely new but kept to old standard such as claw tub and style of tile etc. I loved the old and original features in the room and most of the resort but was happy to have a new extremely clean bathroom. The pool looked very clean and modern as did the spa but I did not utilize those. The skating rink was top notch, the skates they provided were excellent. I brought my own but theirs were nicer. We walked on the trails and it is very beautiful I am glad there are no TV's, wifi and 4g service were excellent if I felt the need to go online. There are many interior rooms with fireplaces and sitting areas. Many sitting areas outside. Extremely peaceful and relaxing. Food was excellent. I didn't get room service but I saw others had it packaged and put in a bag for safety and it did not look appetizing that way. I felt proper precautions were taken with spacing, masks, and cleaning. I felt the safe in the dining room. Mid week was very quiet. It is so large we felt like we were the only ones there except at meals. The dining area is large and tables are very well spaced out. They were extremely accommodating- they let us use a private room and lit the fireplace for us since we eloped there. They didn't require any special planning and they helped in everyway they could. They did not try to charge us or tell us we needed to reserve the room. They let my family members come up for the day. They told us "guests of our guests are our guests too." I think that epitomized their helpful attitude and we will be going back as often as we can.

We had such an amazing time, we already rebooked. There are canoes, paddle boarding, row boating, hiking, swimming in the lake, swimming in the pool, drive in movies, barn movies, fishing, more hiking, rock scramble, gardens, tennis, horse back riding, mountain biking, room service, outside meals, and indoor dining in a room with what looks like a 3 story vaulted ceiling. We had SO much fun, my 8 year old kept saying how much he loved it and didn't want to leave. He is wearing his Mohonk T-shirt as I type this.

The staff go above and beyond. The TV was a little late being brought to our room, so they comped it for us. Every single staff member was smiling and happy to be there. In terms of safety for Covid-19 I felt very safe. Obviously, just because you feel safe, doesn't mean you are 100% safe, but this resort took every measure possible to maintain distance and keep guests safe. Everyone had to wear a mask indoors and outdoors, except on the trails you only needed to wear one when you passed others hiking. Obviously while you were swimming, you had to take it off. Most guests didn't argue, but some of them did, but the staff didn't back down. People must wear masks.

There are hand sanitizing and hand washing stations everywhere. The sheets and blankets all were spotless, and even though we brought our own, we didn't use them. Sunsets in a mountain view room are unreal.

The rooms do smell like a fireplace a little bit. I brought a HEPA air filter with me and it helped make me feel safer in a hotel during the pandemic, but also helped with the fireplace smell.

I cannot recommend Mohonk enough. I can't wait to go back and make more memories. P.S. Guests of the mountain house can have day guests visit for free. They can use all the boats and swim in the lake and everything!

I've been wanting to visit this hotel for several years but was always put off by the price. I finally treated myself and I am so glad I did. The property is beautiful and features extensive hiking trails, a beautiful lake, and the historic inn. The staff was friendly and attentive. The hotel is great for most anyone--families, couples, and singles. Some of the food was excellent and some was not that great but there was a wide variety of choices and something for everyone. The hotel and rooms are obviously quite old but very well maintained. If you need sleek and modern this is not the place for you. I think the stay was worth the price especially after seeing how well maintained the nearby trail system is. I'm sure the cost to maintain this hotel and grounds is very high. Crews were out grading some of the trails and there are miles of railings along the surrounding paths that are perfectly kept. I loved the gazebos and benches that were found throughout the property. Views are stunning. The pool house was very nice though the water could have been warmer. All of the staff I encountered servicing the various activities were friendly and helpful. There was no one who acted like you were bothering them-they all came across as enjoying their jobs which is important for the guest experience. I noticed some older reviews commenting on having to dress for dinner and things of that nature. That is definitely not the case today. While swimsuits and the like are not permitted in dining areas, the dress was resort casual. Wifi signal was strong but you probably won't use it much anyway!

No, definitely not an issue particularly if there is no ice/snow. And there is no traffic so you can take it as slow as you want.

I have never seen a refrigerator in a room. I would call and ask about that. There are large ice makers on each floor , maybe one per floor, add that to your call list. What is a great improvement is filter water fillers that can fill water bottles are everywhere. There use to be only one and the line could get long. Yes you can bring your wine, as someone said . Unless you disguise it you cannot walk the social areas with a bottle or glass. We shared our wine in the porch and enjoyed it. Our room did not have an ice bucket! Put it on you list for the front desk.
