On the 21st of May, the University of Coimbra (UC) will host the seminar "Quality of Death and Dying: a Global Perspective" by Eric Finkelstein, one of the most renowned scientists in the field of the causes and economic consequences of health behaviour.

The event will take place from 14:30 to 16:00 in the Amphitheatre of the Institute of Clinical and Biomedical Research of the Faculty of Medicine, located at UC Campus III (ground floor of Subunit 1). Participation in the seminar is free and open to the entire community, but prior registration is required by the 20th of May at https://ls.uc.pt/index.php/153169?lang=pt.

This scientific activity is part of the research project 'EOLinPLACE: Choice of where we die: a classification reform to discern diversity in individual end-of-life pathways'. Led by the UC and funded by the European Research Council, the project focuses on understanding choice and diversity in end-of-life care to better understand where patients with life-limiting conditions are cared for.

Eric Finkelstein is Professor of Health Services and Systems Research at the Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore and the Executive Director of the Lien Centre for Palliative Care. He also holds appointments at NUS School of Public Health and Duke University Global Health Institute.

His research focuses on the economic causes and consequences of health-related behaviour, with a particular emphasis on using traditional and economic incentives to influence behaviour to improve public health. More recently, he has conducted studies to better understand the complex decisions involved in end-of-life care.

Dr Finkelstein has published more than 300 articles and 2 books. He has been listed as one of the world's most cited researchers by Thomson Reuters and Clarivate Analytics, and was ranked in the top 2% of the world's most influential scientists by a Stanford University study published in 2021.
