Eden Lake - first time watch

I had seen it suggested a lot here and there but the plot seemed weak. I love horror, but it doesn't really scare me, I don't love slashers but I've seen pretty much every other main horror recommendation and decided to watch Eden Lake. I tend to find reddit recommendations to fall short and went in with low expectations. After the movie was in the thick of it maybe 20 mins in, I was on edge, no movie has ever made me feel the fear and anxiety of the characters like this movie. I don't know what it is, but everything was perfect, the pacing was great, for less than 90 minutes it felt long like long enough I assumed it would end way sooner than it did, I thought I predicted what would happen and then there was something else I wouldn't see coming multiple times. The build up of the characters was just enough to get me invested and then through the ordeal I became more invested in them as people. I spent over an hour with physical effects of adrenaline, my body felt weak, my heart was beating fast. I know it's happened to me before in movies but not to that extent and for so long. I liked the ending, I know it was divisive. The plot is realistic, teenagers do act like that and there's multiple cases of similar situations.

I needed 10-15 minutes to process and let my body calm down, which was unheard of for me. I would love more recommendations like this, I don't love slashers but this was a nice balance.

I knew how the film ended unfortunately. But the scene that disturbed me the most was the tire scene.

that really shocked me too

Yes. I only watched the film once like two years ago. But that scene is stuck in my head.

I just watched The Girl Next Door (2007) tonight for the first time after seeing it recommended on here a lot. It gave off similar vibes to Eden Lake.
