Real People' host dead at 52

LOS ANGELES -- Comedian Charles 'Skip' Stephenson, former host of the now-defunct prime-time show 'Real People,' died after suffering an apparent heart attack.

He was 52.

Stephenson was rushed from his Studio City home to Medical Center of North Hollywood where he was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m. Monday, nursing supervisor Maria Wawock said.

Stephenson joined Sarah Purcell and other personalities in hosting the ABC show 'Real People,' which ran from 1979 to 1984. The show focused on off-beat people and their quirky hobbies, jobs and undertakings.

Authorities said preliminary cause of death appears to be heart failure.
