The BGHS public speaking and debating teams have been incredibly productive and successful in 2023.
In the Premier’s Debating Challenge, our Year 7 and 10 teams earned the title of Zone Champions. Two of our brilliant Year 7 students, Hermione and Rayana, also competed in the Legacy Public Speaking competition and ended up as regional finalists!
Year 10 students Henna and Shenelle joined the Plain English public speaking competition and performed admirably, while Year 10s Zeenia, Vallabhi and Garvika prepared engaging speeches for the Rostrum Voice of Youth competition.
Year 10 students Haadia, Rudrapriya, Garima and Likhita were especially busy this year, participating in a variety of Model United Nations events and showing their dedication and passion by giving up their valuable time on weekends to compete and network with other public and private school teams. In addition, BGHS hosted a highly successful Model United Nations Conference on 5 November with participants from 17 public and private high schools. Students represented allocated nations to debate world issues while learning more about the complexity of international relations and diplomacy.
Our impressive Senior Debating team finished equal first with two other high schools in the University of Sydney Senior Debating Day. Their dedication and hard work throughout the year pushed them forward to achieve this incredible result. Excellent work, girls!
Another exciting piece of news is that a professional debating coach joined our team this year, providing our students with invaluable skills and insight. With this addition, the future of debating and public speaking at BGHS looks incredibly bright!
Here’s to another highly successful season of debating and public speaking at BGHS. Congratulations on a remarkable year, girls!
