Tim Tebow Reacts To Reggie Bush Getting His Heisman Trophy Back
The Heisman Trophy Trust restored Reggie Bush as the official 2005 winner. Fellow members of the prestigious group celebrated the decision on Wednesday.
Tim Tebow was one of several former winners present to award the former USC running back the trophy he relinquished in 2010. The former Florida quarterback posted a photo including fellow college legends such as Archie Griffin, Ricky Williams, and Earl Campbell.
Bush is front and center, touching the award he forfeited due to NCAA sanctions.
"One of the greatest to ever play!" Tebow wrote of Bush.
Bush earned the Heisman by gaining 2,218 scrimmage yards and 18 touchdowns during a dominant season for the 12-1 Trojans. However, the NCAA forced the program to vacate those victories and Bush's Heisman after an investigation uncovered illegal benefits given to players before in a pre-NIL age.
The Heisman Trust said "fundamental changes in college athletics" over the past few years led to Wednesday's widely applauded decision. Fellow Heisman winner Johnny Manziel, who threatened to boycott Heisman ceremonies unless Bush got his trophy back, celebrated the institution "doing what’s right and welcoming a storied member of our history back into the fold."
Bush shared a statement with ESPN's Pete Thamel after reuniting with his Heisman.
"Personally, I'm thrilled to reunite with my fellow Heisman winners and be a part of the storied legacy of the Heisman Trophy, and I'm honored to return to the Heisman family," Bush said. "I also look forward to working together with the Heisman Trust to advance the values and mission of the organization."
